When terrorists attacked our country on September 11, you were as horrified as we were. Even though most of you weren’t any more directly affected than I was, you understood that the people hurt, the people killed, were innocents. Even when you disagree with the decisions our government makes, you realized that it wasn’t our government that was attacked.
I cried when I saw the pictures of people from other countries lighting candles, laying flowers and flying their flags half-mast. You recognized a country grieving and you grieved with us. You didn’t grandstand; you didn’t shake you heads and blame the US for being what it is. You just held our hand and stayed silently at our side.
