I like fireworks. I don’t have a problem with saying dogs and their people need to deal with it one night a year. I agree that blowing them off every night for a week is not OK.
Chicago is great for this. You can go to pretty much any large public park and see a completely illegal hours-long display of professional grade fireworks right up close, without having to deal with crowds and traffic. Rumor has it the guys setting them off are all firefighters and cops, who hopefully know what they’re doing.
Not that they really seem to interfere with idiots setting them off in their backyards, but (at least on the 4th itself) relatively few do so, because the free show is so much better. I bet there’s a significant net gain in public safety there.
