Pretty much all fireworks are illegal in Illinois, but that doesn’t stop most who like the booms. Last night was insane in my neighborhood with the weapons grade stuff. I no longer have a dog, and was strangely grateful for that the last few nights.
Are you in Georgia by chance?
Not in Georgia, or even close. We are not inside city limits, and this county is run by assholes.
Why? You can obviously harm yourself just fine with the regular stuff or burn down your neighbor’s house what makes the “display grade” worse?
Same here. Legal? What does that mean? Nobody here gives a shit about legality. We had some beautiful stuff go up last night but, man, how much money was being burnt in the air, and where do people have the disposable income? I live in a working/middle-class immigrant community on the Southwest Side of Chicago and it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of money to blow up, but, oh well. Like I said, I enjoy the show, but there’s absolutely no enforcement whatsoever. And we’re right on the flight path to Midway airport, like less than two miles away so the planes are only a few hundred feet up. I would have thought maybe this would cause the authorities to care, but no. So the crying about “these things should be illegal” … well, in many places they are, and it doesn’t matter. Hell, there’s fireworks going off right now as I type this even. Yet still I enjoy them.
That’s a thing!!?!

I know your skull is full of moldy newspaper and wads of packing tape, but I’m going to try to explain this to you anyway.
Nobody makes lightning happen. It’s a natural phenomenon that can neither be caused, nor prevented, by human action.
Fireworks only happen because a human decided to make them happen.
So, if a dog is frightened by lightning, nobody is at fault. If a dog is frightened by a firework, it’s the fault of the person who set off the firework. It’s reasonable to get angry at the person responsible for the firework, even through there’s also lightning, which nobody is responsible for.
Yes, it’s a thing, here’s a model similar to the ones I use however YMMV
Fair warning, like a lot of things they’re a compromise, they are good at blocking light, fair to good on comfort, and have surprisingly good sound. But there are better masks for light and comfort. For me they’re awesome because I can comfortably fall asleep with them on, and while I like having music to sleep too, the wife can’t stand it. But I do find myself taking them off after I wake up and roll over in the night.
Back to the OP - the OTC and moderately loud nighttime playlist managed to work in conjunction with the fireworks finally slowing around 11pm. I will definitely add a double pitting for all those shooting it off after 10pm on behalf of those (like me) working today. Hiss. Boo.
They’ve amended the cause of death from slipping and hitting his head to blunt force trauma to the chest.

A valid point. However, humans are also part of nature, as is their behavior. As Al said, the only things that are infinite are the universe and stupidity, and there may be some doubt about stupidity. If fireworks exist and humans exist, the shooting off of fireworks is as natural as any meteorological event.
I’m just glad the bullshit is over with for another year. I don’t get the attraction to all the fucking noise for these childish fucking assholes
I enjoyed July 4th a hell of a lot more when I didn’t have to get up at 3 am on July 5th to help open the store.
Sleep? What’s that? Those of us who had to go to work early were fucked.
Also, my birds were having a meltdown. With them it’s not the sound as much as the colors and lights that freak them out. I managed to block most of the light so they weren’t screaming so much but I expect from the way they all knocked off to sleep right after breakfast they still didn’t sleep much last night.
I know I didn’t.
You’re a dick. But at least, you an honest dick.
Annnnnddd… the mortar shells have started up again today…
And here as well…just as the sun goes down. Hopefully the mayhem won’t go into the wee hours like it did last night.
Here as well.
Not quite so silent in my little farm town, just 40 miles south of you.
Sporadic fireworks for the last week, with a bunch more last night (July 4). Probably will be sporadic again for the next week or so, I suspect.
I was out of town yesterday but hear it was quiet here. My host was scanning and summarizing the local news this morning: “Brush fire, brush fire, brush fire, brush fire, brush fire, guy stabbed for setting off fireworks, brush fire, brush fire…” About sums it up.
For those saying thunderstorms are just as traumatic for dogs: nope. My dogs were always terrified of fireworks but only slightly nervous during thunderstorms, and then only when they got older. There’s a distinct difference between the sound of thunder and that of fireworks. Also, thunderstorms are unavoidable. Fireworks are not.
Are you as cavalier about veterans?
