To what magazines do you subscribe, and why?

I subscribe to
Entertainment Weekly–It’s like SI for gay guys
Scientific American–because I’m interested in science and the way the wolrd works
Discover–ditto
Maxim–Would you believe I read it for the articles?
Men’s Fitness–My gym gave me a three-year subscription to compensate for jacking up their rates
Men’s Health and Muscle & Fitness–For nutrition and workout ideas
Smithsonian–it has interesting articles and pictorail spreads on history and world culture
Instinct–It’s Maxim for gay guys.
Time, Newsweek, and US News & World Report–for a basic overview of the news

Is this a FETISH magazine?!

No, Dungeon is a magazine for Dungeons & Dragons.

GrizzRich, I believe you’re thinking of “Nipple Clamps Today,” and “The Cat 'o Nine Tails News”

Games - A shadow of its former self, but still great. (Find the fake ad is much easier now that there are like 3 ads per issue :frowning: ). Lots of interesting spins on crossword-puzzle type stuff. Good logic puzzles, and increasingly good coverage of the board game scene.

Reader’s Digest - a gift from my dad. I skip them. The jokes are sometimes good.

I let my IEEE membership lapse when work stopped paying for it, but I miss Spectrum.

Used to get Popular Science but it got real lame recently.

Whoops! I meant skim! skim! really, dad, honest!

I like reading about cars:

Car and Driver
Automobile
Auto Week (should be called Auto Weak, what the hell, it was a gift)
Road and Track ($7 for a whole year, couldn’t resist)
I’d like to subscribe to car, but it’s actually cheaper to buy it on the newstand! It’s $7.95 per issue (or $101 incl tax), a regular overseas subscription is $128 (do the math)

Also:

Discover
Wizard: The Guide to Comics

Comsmo and Foreign Policy, just for the contrast between the two. Foreign Policy actually has a great sense of humor sometimes. And Cosmo…well, I can’t be an intellectual all the time! I love my trash!

Also Cook’s Illustrated (they seduced me with a cheapo subscription). Plus I love to cook.

Natural History, as it’s nearly always very interesting.
Time/Newsweek, just so I keep up on what’s going on.
Astronomy, for the comsomotology stuff.
Scientific American whenever I can grab it…
And National Geographic!

The Door- because it used to make me laugh, but it’s a lot less amusing than it once was, so I doubt I’ll renew.

Games- I like it, and it’s nice to have good puzzles on hand to copy for students on slow days.

Cooking Light- because every year I convince myself that THIS year I’ll cook things from it, but I don’t. I just look at the pictures while eating popcorn. I’d never heard the phrase ‘food porn’ before, but it’s astoundingly apt.

For me, it’s:

Runner’s World
Discover
Astronomy (but I’ll probably drop it)
Air & Space (Smithsonian)
Sport Aviation
Rotor & Wing
Mensa Bulletin
Playboy (my longest running subscription)

I used to get Chess Life, and when it came on the same day as Playboy, my wife gave me lots of grief.

National Review
Atlantic Monthly - especially for P.J. O’Rourke
American Rifleman
Maxim
Reader’s Digest - a gift from Grandma Moto
Washingtonian - actually Mrs. Moto
Smithsonian - ditto.

I also get the Washington Post and Washington Times daily.

Maxim seems a popular choice. I think it’s the perfect blend of adult and juvenile fun. Who else matches practical jokes and single-malt reviews?

You’re doing damn good if you can find the fake ad these days; they discontinued that feature some months ago.

For me:

Games
Games World of Puzzles
Games World of Crosswords
Reader’s Digest (gift subscription)
Book (assuming it’s still being published. You got it free if you bought the reader’s discount card at Barnes and Noble)
Taste of Home (the wife’s, but I read it too.)

I also buy Wizard: the Comics Magazine, Toyfare, TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly at the newsstand just about every week or month. And because I’m apparently made of money, I also buy the new Games when it comes out at the newsstand, because my subscription copy arrives about a week and a half later)

I didn’t realize The Door was still around. They’d been having financial trouble for some time, most likely because they haven’t been funny or edgy for about that same period of time.

-Myron

National Geographic - I enjoy seeing different places, and I love the photography.

Smithsonian - It’s eclectic and usually well written.

I miss Spy magazine. In it’s glory days, it was the best, though it probably wouldn’t stand out too much now.

Fine Homebuilding and Wood because I like to build things.

Model Railroading 'cause I’m a boring old guy.

Skeptic magazine. Finest magazine in the world for enquiring minds. See www.skeptic.com .

I haven’t seen anyone on here post the magazines that I am about to list!

Better Homes and Gardens - a 500 year gift subscription from my mom

Reader’s Digest - okay, well I don’t really subscribe but my sister does and she never reads them (still in the plastic) so I take them!

Martha Stewart Living - Everyone can say what they want but there are really cool things in those pages!

I buy from the news stand occasionally:

Games - live games and puzzles
Cosmopolitan - who knows?
Prevention - great health articles
Vogue - fashion
Marie Claire - fun and fashion
HouseBeautiful - I love decorating
Jane - used to come to my house for no apparent reason

make that:

I haven’t seen anyone post most of the magazines I have listed.

and…

Games - love games and puzzles
I thought I was hitting preview, and actually hit submit.

:smack:

Motorcyclist - because I like bikes
Cycle World - because I like bikes
Roadracing World and Motorcycle Technology - great from a technological standpoint
Consumer Reports - need I say why?
Thinking about Discover magazine - seems to be pretty interesting.

In our household:
Newsweek
The Economist
Vegetarian Times
