To You Stupid Fucking Radio Stations

Although I would like to have heard Bush’s announcement of his tax cut mixed with Rush’s “Bravado” (“we will pay the price, but we will not count the cost”).

what about ‘we will rock you’ by Queen???
i thought the song was a little annoying too. all those kind of songs are annoying. i guess it’s a new way of mainstreaming tragedies …

how is this for sickening?

just heard a version of “bittersweet symphony” (i think it is “the verve”?) with samples of bush and others yaking over the music. i find this so amazing because this song is a sample of muzak doing a sample of the rolling stones! (which some people argue is just a rip-off of existing black-american r&b… i said some people, NOT ME!)

when the hell is someone going to come up with thier own shit?

Sigh.

Being in radio is really trying to please the most amount of people you can, the most amount of the time. What basically happens is no matter what we do, we will end up pissing somebody somewhere off.

FWIW Esprix, the “Titanic”/Celine Dion song was not radio’s fault. Ditto with the “Armegeddon”/Aerosmith “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” version. (Remember that one ?) Both those songs were done by the movie studios. Sure we played them - people (lots and lots of people) called in and asked for them.

Now as far as the tribute songs going on that deal with the tragic events of 9-11. . . well some folks seem to appreciate them. I understand many do not. Personally we ran a version of “Porceline” by Moby that I thought was rather moving. We only played it about 4 times a day and I think that was a good decision. Radio, commercial large market radio, trys to connect with our listeners as much as possible. This is one way we do that.

There were people like pammipoo that found some emotional release in these songs and called to thank us.

What can I say ? We do the best we can . . . sorry and all. Oh, I mean sorry you heartless, non-feeling, cruel bastards !! (This being the Pit and all.)

I hate the practice, so don’t misinterpret this post as a defense of it. That said, you’re right about “Imagine” not being patriotic, but it does fit the situation rather well, especailly the lyrics you’ve quoted. The terrorists were attacking a nation, in defense of an extreme view or a religion, believing they would go to heaven. It’s a somewhat ironic comment on the acts of 9/11/01. Of course, given the uber-patriotism of most such compilations, the people responsible for it may not realize that they’re being more ironic than patriotic.

The one that made me scream and try to throw the radio across the lab(good thing it wasnt MY radio) was Lightening Crashes by Live. It is a song about a woman DYING IN CHILDBIRTH! My feeling is that this whole edit shit just trivializes a horrific event by reducing it to a pop song! Uh huh I ALWAYS look for deep philosophy in pop songs… think I’ll go read some Decartes again…
