To You Stupid Fucking Radio Stations

OK, when “Seinfeld” went off the air and you spliced together funny sound bites from the show into “Time of your Life” by Green Day. That was kind of amusing.

Then you did it again with bits of dialogue from “Titanic” spliced into “My Heart Will Go On.” The sugarometer was off the scale on that one. Don’t get me wrong - I liked both the movie and the song. But why smoosh them together like that?

But when I heard bits of Bush’s speeches interspersed into some Christian-inspired piece of heart-rending fluff by one of the current female country crossover stars, well, that was kind of annoying. Cloying, predictable, but, ok, hey, whatever - some people like that kind of glurge. Still, I wouldn’t have picked Bush’s (IMHO) uninspiring speeches as dialogue to splice in, but whatever.

OK, now you’re doing it again - this time to Enya’s “Only Time.” This time you included some preacher, presumably bits from the service from the National Cathedral, Bush again, and, if I’m not mistaken, Colin Powell and Rumsfeld. Not only is this new “format” overdone, but at least get yourself some more inspiring speakers.

What’s next? Greenspan’s latest address on the economic climate set to the Beatle’s “That’s What I Want?” The Taliban’s press releases to Diana Ross’ “Touch Me In The Morning?” Osama bin Laden’s denial of involvement to George Thorogood’s “It Wasn’t Me?” The list of ingredients to a box of cornflakes to “Home on the Range?” My “Ask the Gay Guy!” threads to South Park’s “I’m Super!”?

I think this tragedy speaks for itself - adding a soundtrack is not required, and, if you persist, your “all-star cast album” needs a few more talented stars.

I cringe to think what’s going to happen after tonight’s all-star benefit telecast… :frowning:

Esprix

The above post is funnier if you sound-byte (is that a verb?) it into Dark Side of the Moon and turn on The Wizard of Oz

::SMACK!!:: “Owwwww, whaaat?”

Hmmm, now there’s a thought. Maybe I should start sampling Esprix in my posts.

Aack. Only Time was the processional song for my best friend’s wedding in June. Now I’ll never hear it the same way again. shudder

I know “Only Time” was hopelessly cloyingly sweet, but when I heard it the first time last Thursday morning I cried…for the first time. I’m not a very emotional person, and I never allow people to see me cry. I only do it secretly, at night, when everybody is asleep. But I was sitting in my car and I heard that song, and I heard a reporter (I believe it was Brian Williams) say, “There are reports of a plane flying up the Potomic…” I lost it. I don’t know why it took that particular song to make me cry. The odd thing was, as soon as the song ended, so did my tears. If anybody was to look at me, they would never have known that just seconds before I was bawling like a baby.

Just wait until they rebuild the Trade Towers and Bush gives a speech. They’ll dub that into MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This.”

If they rebuild them again like they were, they should play
“Like a Fool” because I think its asking for trouble.

Oh, you think you’ve got it rough? I’ve suffered through the same with Skynyrd’s Tuesday’s Gone and Journey’s City by the Bay (or whatever that damn song is called, Oh I wanna be thee-ay-ee-ayre, in my cittay! ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh-oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh-oh-oh-oh).

I think Elton John should rework Candle in the Wind again. It works so well with nearly everything…
For example, Mother Teresa:
ahem… singing… “Goodbye Mama T, tho we never knew you etc.”

I also think it’s time to have a sig…

I’m SUPER, yes Ask the Gay Guy, I couldn’t be more informative I must say!!!

One of my local stations put the news broadcasts of the planes hitting to one of those patriotic songs, I wanna say “God bless the USA”. I managed to watch all the news coverage, and the funerals, and the search efforts without crying, but somehow once I heard it put to music, I just lost it…damned radio freaks…

Grrrr…the first time I heard this I wanted to scream. Radio glurge is no solution! Arg! I want to be able to understand this event and base my opinions on reason, not be whipped into a teary-eyed pseudi-patriotic fervor by blatent attempt to get me to cry.

Evensven doth not like having her emotions jerked with.

I have heard sept 11 sound bites attached to:

Kidrock- only god knows why
lynard skynrd- tuesdays gone
and just today i heard one to a song that I dont know the name of but the beginning goes–HOW MANY PEOPLE WANNA KICK SOME ASS…I DO I DO-- the dj put bushes speach to the rescue crew in NY at the begining “and the people who knocked down these buildings down will hear all…”(song HOW MANY PEOPLE WANNA KICK SOME ASS) then when the song goes “I do I do” he put the “usa usa” chant in there.

its getting a little old

That’s Stroke9’s Kick Some Ass! Dammit, are they ruining one of my new favorite songs? crap.

Not only are the ruining it but they are running (the ruined version) into the ground. I’ve heard it once an hour for the past three.

all those broadcasting school graduates who work for peanuts have to put their editing skills to use somehow.

I am fortunate enough not to have heard all those patched over songs.

There’s a radio station here that has ruined “Imagine” by intercutting it with people’s reactions–ex “Oh, my God,” “We need to unite,” or “The first thing I did when I heard . . .” Plus, if you actually listen to “Imagine,” you’ll discover that it’s not a very patriotic, go USA type of song.

“Imagine there’s no countries
I wonder if you can
Nothing to kill or die for
A brotherhood of man”

and

“No hell below us,
Above us only sky”

We’ve got it here, too… it’s Sarah McLaughlin’s ‘I will remember you.’ I don’t think they had much Shrub in there, but I do remember the doctor that Peter Jennings interviewed was in there, and some other news bites. The local station that’s most responsible for things like this played it the morning after, on my drive to work, and I cried 'cause it was still so fresh. Second or third go-'round wasn’t that gutwrenching… now it’s just overkill.

That Titanic song annoyed the hell out of me, BTW. I shut it off every time they tried to force-feed it to me.
