I have read all the comments on taxes and taking cigerettes across state lines. What nobody has commented on is when you transport tocacco that is not in cigarette form. Could I get in trouble by carrying a truck load of raw tobacco to NY if it is not in cigerrete form?
When I was a kid, our tobacco went across the state line in bale form, to warehouse. Of course, we had a tobacco base and a paper trail that identified the tobacco as ours, and where it originated. Not that anyone ever stopped us or questioned us before reaching the warehouse, demanding to see our papers. I still see tobacco crossing state lines, presumably bound for the warehouse, but I doubt there is anything to stop the hauler if they wanted to haul it to a friend’s house or wherever.
