Original recipe? The presence of a 3 there suggests that there is an Original Recipe 1, and a Sweet & Spicy 2, along with the Honey Barbecue 3.
Maybe they just wanted to play Fallout 3 on the ultra quality settings.
Well, yeah, but not for current consoles or anything - 1 and 2 are not recent games and I assume not available at Best Buy.
According to my 15 yr old stepson, it is very violent. He usually doesn’t comment about such things, but he made a point of talking to my wife and I about how violent the game was and how it really was ruining his enjoyment of the game. In fact, he quit the single player mode before he even finished because of how gruesome it was.
That’s… an unusual view for a 15 year old male, unless it’s the videogame equivalent of Saw or Hostel or one of those sorts of films- and nothing I’ve heard from any of my gaming friends indicates that it is.
Unusual yes, but I have known many 15-year old boys who were (and still are as adults) bothered by graphic violence. We’re not all bloodthirsty monsters.
Then why would you buy a war game in the first place? How do you expect a war game to be anything but graphic violence?
Off the top of my head:
- My friends said it was cool, and so I bought it without really knowing what I was getting
- I like games with violence just fine, but this one is so real it’s disturbing
Look at it this way: A 15 year old boy who values his social life (and most of them do) would be well advised to never, ever let anyone he knows hear him saying he thinks a particular war-themed but otherwise fairly standard computer game is “Too violent” or “Disturbing”.
Also, it’s a valuable lesson for them in A) Reading the reviews first or B) An introduction to modding (modifying the game to make it less gory/violent).
And I remember the brouhaha over Mortal Kombat back in the day…
These days, buying games a year or two down the line at least means that there’s some hope of the game-breaking bugs to have been patched.
Hell, I was thrilled when Civilization V came out earlier this year…it meant I could finally go pick up Civilization IV.
Well Fallout 3 is a far superior game and they’ve at least managed to get rid of the worst bugs from it.
New Vegas (360) is such a mess that I’ve put my game on hold until it is patched.
War games don’t necessarily have to be graphically violent. The violence in Halo isn’t all that graphic. This is pretty graphic, don’t you think?
