Today I purchased via the internet:

I don’t.

Bits of America are very tasty too! Wisconsin Cheddar, summer sausage, crab cakes, raw oysters, etc. etc.

But sometimes you just want to put the foreign in foreign food, no?

Well, if you take “foreign” to mean things that man would never have thought to even put in his mouth if he hadn’t already discovered alcohol, sure…

I bought a battery for a Palm Tungsten E today.

A glass dip pen, an alcohol lamp (used for sealing wax), a detailed map of Italy (suitable for framing), 25 worry dolls, 5 miniature heart-shaped locks (with keys), a set of three golden Yin Yang coins, a couple dozen postage stamps, and a couple of tiny card decks.

I already have sealing wax, a stamp seal, and ink. I still need to find a portable writing desk, one that I’ll feel comfortable about decoupaging with old stamps.

I have not bought anything online today, but I tend to buy computer games and books online. Computer games because there’s a certain company that makes games I really like, and books because I am generally unable to get to a bookstore, which never has what I want anyway.

Ooh, I want one! Have you received it yet? How do you like it?

This past week I purchased online:

  • Royal Doulton Baroness teapot and teacups/saucers
  • Bicycle parts (Shimano barcons, SRAM cassettes and SRAM chains, AVID brake levers)
  • violin strings
  • DVD (Hitchhiker’s Guide movie)

Amazon is my friend. I buy books and DVDs from Amazon.com regularly, probably US$300 worth per month. It’s the best place to get obscure or ‘expensive to buy locally’ entertainment items.

I also occasionally buy from Amazon.co.uk

If they had an Amazon.com.au with comparable selections and prices, then I’d probably go there instead, but I don’t think it’s on the horizon. And anyway, I love getting big parcels.

Me too. I always order a bunch of books at once just to get a nice big box.

2.5 Kilos of Vegemite
1 kilo of Marmite
250 mg of Promite
8 oz of Bovril (no, I don’t know why that was dispensed in ounces)
24 cans of Underwood Roast Beef spread
24 cans of Underwood Chicken spread

Is that a bomb recipe? What in the world is all that stuff for?

A gastric bomb, perhaps. I’m pretty sure you could clear a room about six hours after you ate all of that, anyway.

[ul]semi-obsure Mac parts[/ul]
[ul]Vicky Secret lingerie[/ul]
[ul]bedroom toys[/ul]
[ul]meade[/ul]
[ul]heavy things (like vacuums, fans, etc.), because I don’t have a car[/ul]

and many, many other random things that are just plain easier to find on the Internet than they are driving around or calling people.

Very rarely I’ll buy TastyKakes because those Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes are good enough to eat too much. Which is why I only order them rarely.

Essential kitchen items in the Mercotan household. Since they’re not available locally, I binge-buy them via the net every year or so. It’ll be my third 2.5 kg tub of Vegemite in the last 5 years or so.

It’s like the Christmas list that the bad kids get!
