Some footage of his funeral has just been screening on television. The scene where the dock workers lowered their cranes as the funeral barge passed down the Thames was very poignant.
I vividly remember the playing of The Battle Hymn of the Republic during the funeral (3:05 in the link), in part a tribute to his American mother.
I was ten when he died, and even then I knew how important he was.
