Today, on the bus, a fat lady capsized.

I am puzzled by one thing: Did the lady who fell spend the rest of her life on the bus?

I agree with Scarlett.

I think the only reason she had trouble getting up, was because she was so fat, and trapped in a small bus aisle.

If I fell in a bus aisle or anywhere, I would want people to stay away from me, pretend it didn’t happen, offer no assistance, and I would get on with my life. Falling down cna be embarassing.

I do agree that the crying kid was not funny at all.

I find his tone and reactions to be appalling.

Yes, I believe that she requested that she not be ‘assisted’, and I am sure she managed to get herself up and off the bus- with a fair amount of personal humiliation.

The OP’er still comes off sounding like a 13 year old.

For shame.

Cartooniverse

Smam, that was damned funny. To hell with these hypocritical, self proclaimed humanitarians. How much money are each of you hoarding in your bank accounts while others live in boxes.

…The little girl…even funnier.

Was this in Glasgow or Edinburgh?

Maybe I find it so funny because I have a point of reference…my MOTHER INLAW. Except, she would never take the bus.

I thought they were both funny, myself. Mean, yes… but still funny.

If I had seen these two quite strange/funny things happen then I probably would have wanted to share the story as well. For heavens sakes leave smam alone. No one got hurt. What an over-reaction.

I’m surprised this isn’t in the Pit already.

yep, those dundee buses are slippy eh

well i thought it was well funny, dundee is full of loonies, you get this kind of stuff all the time!

my favourite was on a bus heading downhill (the number 8 for SMAM, down pitkerro road) and these school kids were running down the isle to get off.
One of the guys slipped and did a comedy, legs in the air, slide and landed straight out on his back.
the funniest thing was a guy in front of me burst out laughing and so i couldn’t help but join in, leading to glowers from all the old biddys.

i still alugh at it now
nick

Are you serious? Sending someone to the pit just because they giggled when couple of people fell over in an amusing manner? As far as I can see, the OP didn’t find this funny because anyone got hurt, more because the situation was surreal.

Hey! no-one on the bus laughed or even cracked a smile, including me. FWIW the woman had managed to get herself into a sitting position on the floor by the time I got off the bus. She seemed relaxed, perhaps the air is cooler down there. Ok so once I got off the bus I couldn’t suppress a grin, but hell, she wouldn’t have seen it from down there.
The kid falling was funny though, in the comedy sense of the word.

Yeah nickannan, it happened on the Lochee Road just across from those pink and white multis.

btw the DVD’s were ‘Bowling for Columbine’, ‘28 Days Later’ and ‘Office Space’.

I did not witness anymore falls yesterday, although I did smash two of my favourite bowls while clearing up after dinner. Yes karma is a biznatch.

That’s perhaps because the common procedure here on the SDMB is to start a Pit thread when you object to someone’s stories in MPSIMS. Not try and convert the MPSIMS thread at hand to a Pit thread because YOU feel some wrong has been done.

The moderators decide what’s appropriate for MPSIMS. In my opinion, this is. Should you want to take issue with what smam wrote, or my decision to leave it in MPSIMS, you know where to go.

There will be no more bitching an whining in this thread.

Go easy on smam. What else could smam do?

The bus had stopped. People has tried to raise the lady. People had offered assistance. The only solution would be to keep going and get a winch or crane rigged up back at the depot. Or perhaps some strong people.

If people kept trying the situation could have gotten worse, if others had strained their backs or became trapped under the lady.

It was a very surreal situation and one that I think was worth mentioning.

Perspective. Okay. What’s funny to you might not be funny to me. How’s that? Sometimes it’s hard not to give in to the absurdity of a situation and burst out laughing, and although this did not happen with the OP, it very well could have. Kudos to him for not giving in to this temptation. To me it was what I like to call “A day in the life…” snippet, and I agree: it read like it could have happened in a Fellini movie.

However, I doubt that I would have found it worthy of an MPSIMS thread. Shit happens, and sometimes it happens to good people. My inclination is to say to myself “There but for the grace…”, try to help and then move on.

Thanks,

Q

OK hang on, fat lady checking in here…

smam, don’t let this bother you. You did nothing wrong, and thank you for not laughing at the fallen fat woman. If she needed help, she would have asked. All she needed was some time to think things through.

When someone falls, they get back up as soon as they can. Long gone are the days when I could bounce right back up. For me, when I fall, I have to think about getting up before I do. She had to go through the list - Injured? Humiliated? Aisle to hip ratio? # of people behind? Wearing a skirt? Any remaining personal modesty? Delaying the bus route? Trust me, all this and more were floating around through her brain.

If I fell, wearing a skirt, on a crowded bus - I would try to wait, as out of the way as possible, until there was no one behind me and THEN struggle to my feet. Because as embarrasing as it is to fall, try getting up without introducing everyone behind you to your undies. For a fat woman in a skirt, it can’t be done. We have to get on hands and knees, balance, get feet under, balance, then stand. But not on a moving bus.

Now that’s only if I wasn’t badly hurt. If I couldn’t get my feet under me, or if I couldn’t walk, it would take 3 or 4 strong people and a blanket to get me up. Not something I want to think about.

DeVena I wasn’t going to bother mentioning it but she did have a skirt on. When I looked down the aisle the first thing she did after falling was to reach back and pull her skirt back into position to cover her modesty. I think you are spot-on here with her reasons for staying put.

Millions and millions of dollars, and I roll around in it every night, laughing maniacally.

Know what, Coldfire, as soon as I saw that you posted, I knew you would involve the U.S. in some sort of way - Petty lawsuits.

Hey, guess what? If the story was from the U.S., you’d be telling us that the decent thing to do would have been X number of things.

Somebody should have done something more than was done. It has NOTHING to do with the U.S. One could argue that because their aren’t petty lawsuits, you could have done more with no risk!

GIVE ME A BREAK. Can’t believe you’d defend someone like this. IMHO, more should have been done, and you can leave the U.S. out of this.

If anything, it is just more disgusting that poor behavior in another country has built in excuses, while it would NOT be excused had it happened in the U.S. Esp by Coldy.
