Today was my last day at work!

I’m in a kind of a combination position to Fiddle Peghead and Leaffan here. Got the news just over a month ago, and today was my last day (And there’s no layoff thread on the 1st page of MPSIMS anymore. :wink: )

Our U.S. parent company said we had to cut costs, which meant the satellite office in Nisku had to go. I was offered a job in Calgary, but it’s too far away from my friends, and not far enough to be exciting. Two co-workers who quit a few months back to start their own business have asked me to sign on with them (with greater enthusiasm than I probably deserve :p)

I’ll admit that the job was wearing on me… older technology and the maintenance of old programs in favour of rebuilding them seemed like a Sisyphean task, and I actually felt happy to go at the time. I still feel that way… right now I’m 1/3 concerned about my short-term employment, 1/3 concerned about logging back in to my work PC to finish deleting my personal emails and such, and 1/3 sad that this means I’ll probably never know what that wind turbine is for. :slight_smile:

Beaming luck waves your way. }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Good luck on your job search!

Thanks! I’m already scheduled to start the new job in January, so no big problems there (except that I’ll be taking a pay cut for a few months 'till the new place starts to make bigger profits).

I’d like to say Good Luck! :slight_smile: to everyone else hit by the economy; as a single guy in the Alberta oilpatch, losing even my 4+ year job wasn’t as big a deal as it would be for most other people.
