Tofu Expiration Question

I have some tofu in the fridge that expired…within the last six months (end of July). It’s still sealed in the original packaging. It’s packed in water, so pressing on the top pushes the water around, but there’s no indication of extra swelling.

And, I mean…it’s fermented already, right? I figure as long as it’s still sealed it’s safe, right?

Jesus Christ, throw that shit out. Spoiled tofu is an abomination.

Yes, it’s safe. Safe to throw out! It probably won’t explode by the time you get it to the garbage or anything, is what I’m saying.

You’re not thinking of *eating *it are you?

On rereading more carefully, I’m seeing that it expired a little over two months ago, which gives a different impression from “within the last six months.” WIth that said, it’s probably foul and inedible and will raise a horrifying stench if you open the packet, but it’s less of a certainty than if it were six months overdue.

And just FYI, that kind of tofu isn’t fermented. The soy milk is coagulated (via a method like enzymes or salt) and pressed into bricks.
