There is a difference between “preference” and “the way things are.” I’d prefer to leave the lid and seat up, but the presence of a wife and cats makes the actual situation seat and lid down.
Seat down. But for the record, the main toilet I use doesn’t have a lid. My SO and I have our own bathroom attached to the bedroom that isn’t for company. We got a horseshoe shaped seat without the lid which is much better for two men than fussing with a lid.
I’m indifferent. For years I tried to get my Mig to put the seat down at night at least because I DO stumble into the bathroom half asleep and fall in. I think he enjoys hearing me holler though, so I won’t give him the pleasure anymore.
I’ve learned to wake up before I sit, or I’ll end up waking up really fast after.
I figure that if my wife is the next user of the toilet, she’s 100% likely to use it with the seat down. And if I’m the next user, I’ve got maybe a 20% chance that the next time I use it, it’ll be with the seat down. So might as well leave it the way it’s most likely to be used.
Besides, if the toilet bowl’s not been cleaned in awhile, I’d rather at least semi-obstruct the view of it when I’m not actually peeing into the bowl.
I don’t think it matters. It moves up and down easily. Just move it to the position you want before you use it. I think it is a silly thing to argue about.
In my house there is one male and one female. I prefer the lid up, seat down, but if it is the other way, that’s fine, too. He usually puts the seat down. On the rare occasions he puts it up it only makes a difference to me at 4 AM when I am too sleepy to check.
I really don’t want to be able to see shit specks and bacteria cultures in the bowl when I’m brushing my teeth, showering, popping meds, or anything else I do in the bathroom besides using the toilet.
Leaving it open is the equivalent of walking in and dropping my coat and shoes in the middle of the floor. It’s not what clean people do.
My preference (which is the way I do things when I’m at home alone, and don’t have to take into account other people’s preferences) is to leave it in whatever state it was in as a result of my using it. Why do anything extra?
I compare it getting something out of the cupboard or the refrigerator. When you’re done using something, you put the lid back on it when you’re through. To me it’s the same thing with toilets. It’s a lid. Why have it on there if you’re not going to use it. When I’m ‘done’ with the toilet, I put the lid on it.
Close the lid, please, especially when flushing. I also prefer the shower curtain/doors closed, but the curtain must also allow a little air circulation behind it, so a gap on either end is acceptable.
I like to browse real estate online and I am always finding the toilet lids up in the pictures, that is sorta gross imo.
I voted lid closed because we have cats and dogs and a huge aversion to them sticking their heads in the toilet, so the law in our house is lid closed when not in use.
