toilet seats

what kind of plastic are toilet seats made from?

Usually polypropylene, I believe.

Edit: actually it seems that while polypropylene is more used for “high-end” seats, standard “plastic” seats are generally polystyrene, from what I can tell.

“…There was a time they made them out of wood,
Mama says the new ones just don’t fit they way they should.”-Bob Martin

One of my favorite lines from an old song. Don’t get to use it much, though.

excavating (for a mind)

I think those cheap flimsy ones are polypropylene, as well as slightly better ones, like this Products - IKEA

But some are stiffer and heavier. They seem to be some kind of thermoset, maybe melamine?

Go to jail and you get to sit on one of these.

You don’t have to go to jail. There are several restaurants and bars where I live that have toilets like that one.

OMG; that is just so wrong. What kind of restaurant would have such a cold device? I’m picturing a White Castle in bad neighborhood.

Melbourne. Flinders Street station (main train station in Melbourne City). I wonder - what’s the point of even installing toilet bowls? Why not just squatting toilets?

Majority of residential toilet seats in the US are still made out of wood, painted MDF.

Matt357, interesting question. Why do you want to know?
