TokyoPlayer is a rat! And thanks for all the fish!

I’ve gotten a new project. There’s a group in Africa which trains rats to detect land mines. I found out about it on the boards and I’ve gotten involved. I’m now heading Hero Rats Japan and am raising money for this. I’ve got a presentation next week with some venture capitalists on getting corporate funding, as well as developing a Japanese site, a mobile site, translating material, looking for help, talking to media and other activities.

Between that, a new assignment at work which will keep me away from the Net during the day and working on the design for our new house, I’m going to be busy for quite a while.

Although I will keep checking in, it looks like I won’t have much time to spend here until sometime next year.

My wife and I are doing much better. I read again yesterday about a family where a child died, and the parents split up a year later. I’m so glad that we grew closer through the hard times.

I want to wish everyone Happy Holidays and Best luck for the New Year!

And thanks for all the fish! You guys are the best!

Cool! Good luck, and I’m glad that things are going better! If you’re ever in Toromto, I’ll buy you a drink!

Heck, if you’re ever in Toronto – and I’m sure we must have some landmines to clear somewhere, like, Spadina must be lousy with 'em – we should convene an emergency Tronnadope.

Good luck on the project, though! It’s good that things are improving.

Forgive my ignorance, but why are you talking to venture capitalists? Is there some profit motive here? Or are you angling to get a piece of their charity budget?

I work with rats all the time. Unfortunately, my co-workers are apparently untrainable.

Going for their charity budget. I’m not doing this one for the money.

I met them though some connections, and their technical guru is on board. We may be able to do some really cool things, which I hope to share with you in the future.

Tokyo Player, i haven’t posted in your threads, but I’ve read them, drawn in not only by your story but by your compelling, expressive writing. Best of luck to you and your wife.

Best of luck.

Good luck man- I learned about the rats a while back, and thought it was a genius idea.

I’m glad to read that things are better for you both. The rat project sounds very worthy!

What a cool idea. Glad you’re able to pitch in and help the cause. And, of course, glad to hear you sounding happy. Make sure to give us an update from time to time.

They’re detecting landmines. Just send them out into a minefield. Let’s face it - any effort spent on training would just be wasted.

My best wishes to you and TokyoWife as you set out on this new stage in life.

What a worthy and noble effort, to work on a safer way to find and destroy landmines. I’ll never forget about a story on NPR about the thousands of unexploded landmines still in Viet Nam decades after the war ended. They told of the all the innocent people who come into the hospitals every year, missing limbs and/or dying because they happened upon a mine while farming or working in a field somewhere. They told of a little girl who went out into her own yard one morning to play and BOOM! Thank you for wanting to help save children like her in the future.
Please do visit us often and let us know how you’re getting along. And when come back, bring sushi.

That sounds enormously worthwhile.! All very best wishes for it.

I apologize for bumping an old thread, but I’d just like to wish you the best of luck with your new project. You and your wife continue to be in my thoughts, but you already knew that.

We’ve had way too many exit threads as of late.
