Toll bootth Speeding ?

I was traveling on the New Jersey turnpike last week and I was wondering when you are presented with a ticket at the toll booth with the time posted on it, if you could be held liable for speeding, if you arrive at the final booth at an unreasonably fast amount of time. Ex, if you traveled 50 miles in 30 minutes time, could an officer write you a citation based upon the time stamped on the toll ticket?

Thanks, JR

Yes it can and it has been done on the NY thruway a long time ago according to my parents.

It’s being done right now in many big cities.
Big Brother is watching.

My fiance got a speeding ticket on the Kansas turnpike for the exact offense.

The MassPike was using their SpeedPass system to do that, but people stopped signing up when they found out. They’ve since halted the practice.

Toll roads suck. Thank you.

This article says they can’t do it in NJ currently:

Of course, laws can be changed at any time.

Great link, smack.

Just to chime in: True Confession: I sometimes drive the fifty or so miles between my home and Albany, NY, on the NY State Thruway; I exceed the speed limit as much as does everybody else on this stretch of road, which is to say by 5 to 10 mph, occasionally more; I have the EZ Pass tags; I usually don’t stop at any of the rest areas…

I’d therefore be a prime candidate for such a speeding ticket, and I have never yet gotten one. Whether people COULD, I don’t know; whether people DO, that’s clearly no, or at least not often.

I drive on the Kansas Turnpike at least a couple of times a week, and I have yet to get a speeding ticket. Yes, I always exceed the posted limit, sometimes by as much as fifteen mph. There are state troopers on the turnpike that hand out speeding tickets, but only rarely do you see them at the tollbooths. If they do happen to be monitoring speed there, they do it with radar as you approach the booth, NOT by calculating your speed from the ticket times. I have had a few older booth attendants raise their eyebrows and scowl at me when they see my time, but even that has been very rare.
