I never thought much of Kate Capshaw but if all that is true, I think I like her now.
Regardless of what people who dis “The Temple of Doooom” may say, she’s smokin’ hot. Not falling for that claptrap adds that adds minimally to her hottitude, and, being of an age where she has prospect as a hyper-hot, if unattainable (though her Scientology background, as in: stupidity plays into my hand), second wife, all I can say is, Hello, Kate! May I introduce you to a Goy with minimal issues?
Evidently being a Scientologist is a crushing burden… saving the world is a bitch.
Any chance we can pit the Honorable Reverend Al Sharpton against the Church of Scientology? That would be a battle for the ages…
That was interesting to read, but the question that I kept having was, “Who was around to overhear all these conversations to report them?” The writer mentioned several supposedly private conversations between Spielberg and Cruise. If they were truly private, only one of two people could have reported them to the gossip columnist.
I still don’t get how Scientology can by any stretch of the normal definitions be called a religion. Since we’re all about fighting ignorance here, can someone enlighten me? Can I say I believe in hobbits and Middle Earth and call it my religion and say that I believe in people being nice and fighting evil - and then be all tax exempt???
BTW - I’m full of the disgust for Cruise and appalled that anyone falls for this L.Ron bullshit. But I don’t understand how people fall for Mormonism or any fundamentalist stuff (Muslim, Christian, whatever) either.
The working theory is that this was a Princess Di move by Kate Capshaw. In other words, Di wanted her story told, but she couldn’t just tell it herself, so she passed the word around to friends that it’d be ok for them to talk to Andrew Morton, so she was able to let the public know what was going on with her, but indirectly. The working theory is that Capshaw doesn’t particularly take kindly to some dickhead threatening to sabatoge her strong and happy marriage, and doesn’t take kindly to scienos picketing her children’s doctor, so gave the ok to people who were around to talk to this person in London.
It’s been months since I read the whole thing so I might get these IDs wrong, but that would include not only Spielberg and Capshaw themselves, but participants such as Business Partner (who had to have been either David Geffen or Jeffrey Katzenberg), Movie Executive (most likely Kathleen Kennedy), “Mr. Ocean Lover” (Brad Pitt?), and “Mr. Hard to Catch” (either George Clooney, or Leo DiCaprio), and “Mr. Moviestar 2” and “Mrs Moviestar 2” who are almost certainly Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. I’m sure there were several others at that Hollywood party who would talk as long as they were not identified. The confrontation happened out on the smoking balcony, which is always packed full of people, so dozens would have overheard and saw what was going on. Also, that confrontation behind the scenes at the “film festival” happened at the Chicago International Film Festival. There would have been a lot of people behind the scenes nearby who would have overheard all this bullshit going on too. Also remember the power of invisible assistants and household staff. There are so many different ways for this info, even the private conversations info, to leak, ranging from Speilberg himself to the maid, that it doesn’t strike me as bizarre.
It all makes sense to me. Hollywood types are sick and tired of Cruise’s bullshit, and Capshaw and Spielberg are a VERY popular couple. No one’s going to speak out against Cruise out loud, he is still a Hollywood power player (especially now that he owns a movie studio with one of the few working contracts with the writers guild so he can use striking writers), but back door gossip? That’ll work. This hasn’t gotten any media play though, because of course none of the people involved are going to confirm it for the record. It’s just gossip, and unless something happens to cause it to blow up in the public eye, it’ll stay just gossip. I’m passing it along because I think it’s plausable, and fascinating. Cruise is acting exactly by the scieno playbook in his dealings with Capshaw. She’s an enemy. You’re not supposed to leave scientology, and she did! She’s an SP, and anyone who saw that rant by Cruise a few days ago knows what he thinks of SPs.
It might be a slog, but if you read through both threads at Operation Clambake and Gossip Rocks, there are several fascinating tidbits (yes, even in the Gossip Rocks thread, which segues into Tom’s recent bullshit and has some fascinating info about it). I’d never read a gossip web site in my life until I read that thread, but it was worth it.
I’m still waiting for the promised last installment of the story, which seems to have gone missing. I don’t know if the London magazine was threatened and they didn’t print the last bit or what.
What I don’t get is the notion that people don’t mock them because “they sue”- a comic does a bit on the whole origin of Scientology thing on a comedy special, I’m no law talking guy, what exactly has he done that you can sue (and possibly win) for?
A frivolous lawsuit is still a lawsuit, and with the bottomless purses and resources at the CoS’s disposal, it’s not about winning in the long run, it’s about creating a completely miserable life for the defendant in the meantime.
What ArchiveGuy said. It’s not about winning or even having a decent case, it’s about being a nuisance. Then there’s the people who annoy the church and get called child molesters and worse. People occasionally take out libel suits against the church, but the process can cost more than it’s worth. I mean, if they went around saying I was a child molester, would it be worth going to court over such a ludicrous claim?
And it’s not like they’re draining their coffers. Having lots of rich celebrities in their numbers has numerous good points.
OK, so you join the CO$-and spend thousands on auditing. You get rid of your thetans-so where do they go? Do they attach themseleves to other people? Look at Tom Cruise-he’s obviously FREE of thetans-so why is he so stupid?
I cracked up when he related how “clearing the planet was such a blast”!!
Of course, he kept musing about how hard the work is…I wonder if he really believes all of this sh*t??
And I still don’t know who the hell he is.
BTW, my wife’s best friend dated TC in teh '80s. She does not have flattering things to say about him, particularly about his amorous skills.
Oh fuck, now I’m going to get sued.
And if harassment doesn’t work, maybe conspiracy to incriminate will.
Here ya go, The Way of the Master, but this is “his” magnum opus, The Banana: The Atheists Nightmare.
CMC +fnord!
He would live in a cossetted world, like every powerful and rich person. I’m sure he is surrounded by CoS minions who agree with everything he says and do anything he asks, and make everything appear to be as they believe he wants it to be. They would be telling him what he wants to hear, and reporting nothing but progress and success to him. Every inanity he utters will be greeted with impressed cooing and delight by brainwashed CoS serfs. Cruise acts like he’s a “clear” superman, they believe it, and that reinforces his own self belief.
Whether the more shadowy figures behind CoS really believe their own shit I have no idea. However, I have no doubt that either deliberately or just by the nature of the situation, everything is done to avoid CoS’s biggest name frontman having reason to suffer a moment’s doubt.
And let us not forget the true Devil. The Beast himself, Aleister Crowley, who is the one that taught the techniques to Hubbard. Scientology spawned from the OTO which spawned from the Golden Dawn, which spawned from Rosicrucianism, which spawned from Sufism and so on and so forth.
Scientology is no more weird or scary than any other religion. It’s got the basic premises, overcoming the reactive mind. Demon who is the master of all evil, slavery and bondage. Messiahs, rich coffers, etc… etc…
If you like Scientology conspiracies look into other conspiracies that put it to shame. Keywords: “Propaganda Due” “Roberto Calvi” “Gladio”. The worlds secular political religions with their right and left wing agents are quite intimidating in their own right. Society is a great big conspiracy, a scam, a contest for control, yadda yadda yadda.
I’ve never heard of anything to which you refer. How much reading am I looking at to become informed?
Gah, maybe Spielberg can get in touch with the Mafia?
