Tom DeLay is an "Isreali at heart"

The actual quote from DeLay is:

This is what he is referring to as The Lie, and what he says terrorism is based on. As was Auschwitz, etc.

I was correcting Mgtman’s misunderstanding of the term.

Shodan

Because of course, that would be the counterpart in your bigoted opinion wouldn’t it?

Not “a Palestinian at heart”, but some sort of Ay-rab terrorist, right?

First things first. I am perfectly capable of parsing Mr DeLay’s speech to determine the antecedant he used for the phrase “The Lie” which he used thereafter. Perhaps I should more clearly spell out my objection to his usage because it seems to have been misunderstood.

It is my recollection from various studies of world religions that “The Lie” is a euphamism for Satan/The Devil in some religions, perhaps even Judaism. It is my assertion that DeLay chose “The Lie” as shorthand for “the idea that with enough guns, enough fear, and enough violence, human power can control the human spirit” in order to correlate it with this concept of Satan/irredeemable evil. I object to this, as I mentioned above, because it is polarizing, specifically polarizing in the religious sense. I don’t believe the US should get involved in the religious aspects of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Deal with the secular issues and shut the fuck up with the religious rhetoric. Or are you trying to start a holy war?

Wide-eyed innocence about “he didn’t mean anything by it” seems almost criminally naieve. After all, I can spout a nice speech in which the word “nigger” is conveniently defined as “our beloved brothers with darker skin” but that won’t stop the common connotation from carrying the day when I use it.

The fuzzy part here is the question of if Judaism uses the euphamism “The Lie” for Satan. I’m basing this on a fuzzy recollection from years ago and I can’t be sure of this. Ah well, even if they don’t, the explicit comparison of it to the words of the serpent certainly make it clear. Clearly religous imagery. Perhaps inevitable when dealing with countries where religion is such a powerful force, but

Now, as to how this kind of hard-line “we won’t negotiate with you until you stop the terrorists” bullshit hands the reigns of the peace process over to the extremists I refer you to the past twenty freaking years of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Oh and Northern Ireland. Extremists who believe that a war between the Arabs and the Jews will bring about Armageddon and the return of their beloved IPU absolutely wet their pants when they hear crap like this

Yea! That makes it easy! All we need is one “martyr” and a few sticks of dynamite. The war between the Jews and Arabs is a step closer, we won’t let you down IPU!

Enjoy,
Steven

Can I get an “Amen” for Mtgman’s post…

First and foremost, Tom DeLay is an Evangelical Christian at heart (anyone remember, this is the man who blamed the Columbine shootings on the sin of Teaching Evolution in Our Public Schools?). Evangelical Christians have an agenda that has little to do with establishing peace in that part of the world or ending terrorism. I dare say in fact, that they seem to share the same ideological opinions held by Osama and al-Quaida, mainly that there will be a violent conflict between Islam and the West. 60 Minutes did a segment on it which re-aired recently called Zion’s Christian Soldiers. Here’s what believers like Tom DeLay have planned for the Israelis:

And here’s what they have in store for the Palestinians:

It really sickens me to think that there are people like Tom DeLay that are in the highest positions of power in our nation. We need to heed our own advice and rid ourselves of own religious zealots.

As an Israeli, all I can do is reiterate: “with friends like this, who needs enemies?”
