Remember the end of Chinatown when Jake’s girlfriend gets her brains blown out all over the steering wheel and the evil rich old baby-fucker gets his nasty mitts on the innocent little girl and his buddy says: “Forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown.”?
Forget it, Poly . It’s Texas.

Of course, I don’t look anything like Faye Dunaway, but you get the picture.
Didn’t DeLay’s team promise to mount a defense that was unequivocal, straightforward, and not predicated on technicalities?
Why’s everyone laughing?

I’ve never had much use for TOm DeLay, since he’s always stood for pork barrel politics, rather than anything worth calling conservative values. Most conservatives feel the same way. If they rally around him, it’s for the same reason liberals rallied around Bill Clinton: the old “he’s one of US” mentality.
That said, it’s always fun to see liberals foam at the mouth over guys like DeLay and Karl Rove. Neither man is a genius, neither man is anything more than a reasonably smart, fairly successful political operator. Yet somehow, liberals have built these two relatively insignificant,. not terribly impressive guys into omnipotent evil geniuses.
And even though I’ve never liked Rove, I LOVED the way he ruined Austin DA Ronnie Earle’s mug shot publicity stunt. By showing up for the mug shot on his own, and posing with a huge grin on his face, DeLay made Earle’s perp walk/mug shot stunt absolutely useless in terms of propaganda value.
Some, including Cheney, are rallying around him. They are giving, or just gave, and “dinner” for him, to throw more money into the black hole, for the paltry entrance fee of about $4000 a plate. Plus, DeLay is still playing games over which judge he will “allow”.

And probably deadly for many others, as well. Check out the article at

It was posted in May of this year, but though old, the info (if you haven’t heard about it before) will still curl your toes.
Tom Delay Convicted of Money Laundering
A Travis County jury today found former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay guilty of political money laundering charges relating to a corporate money swap in the 2002 elections.
The verdict came down five years after DeLay was forced to step down as the second most powerful Republican in the U.S. House. The charges also led DeLay to resign from his Sugar Land congressional seat in 2006.
DeLay was accused of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering. On the conspiracy charge, DeLay faces a sentence of two to 20 years in prison and five to 99 years or life in prison on the money laundering count.
Tom Delay is now a convicted felon. In Texas, no less.
The system works.

Previous thread:
Is Tom DeLay Going to Jail?
Sounds like we may know the answer to that question within the coming year.
It’s Austin. DeLay is convicted.
We’ll see if he gets to go to jail, though. I hope he rots. And then, the bugs will come and exact their sweet, sweet revenge.
Not a day. Not so much as a day. He will appeal for years, and then appeal the appeals for a few more. A way will be found. The last resort would be Governor Goodhair. He’d rather not, but he knows what’s good for him, and he’s got The Fever.
But they can keep this case wandering through the arcane wilds of Texas justice for as long as they need to.

And the only prescription is . . . more cowbell?
from the Truthout article
“I still maintain that I am innocent,” DeLay said. “The criminalization of politics undermines our system.”
I seriously loled

My guess is that he’ll pull a Kenneth Lay and have the decency to die before he’s sentenced.
Wait a minute…Lay, DeLay. Lay, DeLay.
Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!!

Does he really get to roam free during the appeals process?
Maybe Cheney will take him hunting.
Two go out, but only one comes back …
