This just absolutely sucks.
I hope he went down swingin’.

He was my 12 year old daughter’s favorite singer in the world. She will be heartbroken.
I was getting on the red line when I heard the sound check for that concert. I knew then that it was a dumb idea for me to have switched to working nights, just for the extra pay. I missed that concert, which I regret.
I’m pretty sure my first “real concert” was Petty & The Heartbreakers, with Fabulous Thunderbirds as opener. Probably around “Damn the Torpedoes” time.
Lucky has gone to be with Luann.
Aw, man! Loved his music. He will be missed!
Very sad, he was a talented man.
Saw him at Red Rocks (Colorado) a few years ago. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
One of my co-workers is a close relative of his. I only see co-worker about once a month though…don’t think I’ll be pestering him with condolences right now.
I posted this in the Death Pool thread:
"Holy fuck!!!
For the first time in a really long time this shocked me. I mean literally; I felt it from my neck to my toes."
I’m going to be honest. John Lennon’s death is the only celebrity death that impacted me more in my life. We all knew George had terminal cancer, so that doesn’t count.
This saddens me immensely.
This sucks and 2017 continues to suck.
Running Down a Dream is one of my favorites.
My favorite (among many) was You Wreck Me.
But I guess it was Time to Move On.
What a shitty, shitty day :(.
ETA: RIP. The older I get the younger 66 sounds to me :(.
Man, I should call my dad. He loves Tom Petty, and he’s the reason I love him too.
I remember the first time I heard Petty, or at least, the first time I remember hearing him. My dad had made a new mixtape for the car, and “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around”, his duet with Stevie Nicks, came up. “You hear that guy?” my dad asked. “That’s Tom Petty. He has the worst voice in rock n’ roll. He’s terrific.” He did, and he was.
That really blows. He is second only to Kesha in my little world. I saw him twice at the United Center but missed his Wrigley Field show this past summer.
Obligatory tribute Vid. 2017 Blows.
Sadly it was theend of the line
Here’s another misfit, another Jimmy Dean
Bet be’s got a motorbike,
What’a y’all think?
Bet if we good we’ll get a ride on it
If be ain’t too mad about the future
Maybe we oughta help him see
The future ain’t what it used to be.
Ain’t that the truth?
TMZ says he’s still alive, though not expected to survive.
I just watched “George Harrison: Living in the Material World,” and there’s a part with Tom Petty telling a story of when Roy Orbison died. George called Tom up and said “Aren’t you glad it wasn’t you?”
When I was younger and a mild audio enthusiast( read: non-crazy audiophile ), I used to spend a lot of time hanging out at audio gear sites and reading audio magazines. Folks were always going on at great length about how they stress-tested this or that bit of audio gear, especially speakers. It became kind of an internal joke to me at just how many people insisted on using Petty’s Full Moon Fever as their rock test material. It was ridiculously ubiquitous, from professional magazine reviewers to pretentious dudes boasting about the fidelity of their cables on audio message boards.
But if you listen to it, it kinda makes sense.
