Tomb of the Unknown Lesbians

I remember seeing photos, linked to from the SDMB, from a Dopefest or similar event, portraying a place called (possibly only by Dopers, possibly officially) the Tomb of the Unknown Lesbians, featuring a statue of two women in horizontal embrace. Now, I can’t find the SDMB thread or any reference to the place for the life of me. Could anyone who was there (Eve was, I believe) fill me in and give me the url to the pictures?

Oh, jeez, it was either at the Woodlawn (Bronx) or Green-Wood (Brooklyn) cemetery tours—if your search function is working, check for those, in MPSIMS.

It was a marble reclining statue an artist has done of herself and her lover entwined—both are still alive, but have a grave reserved at that space. “The Tomb of the Unknown Lesbians” was our nickname for the statue, by the way, it’s not official!

It’s in Woodlawn–I have a picture but no time to put it on the web right now. Its proper title is “Portrait of a Marriage” and on an earlier non-SDMB tour I had the pleasure of seeing the sculptress herself gazing fondly at her work and her own future tomb. When asked what would happen if she and Debbie broke up, she said “Oh, she’s STILL being buried here!”

I’ll put it up tonight if I still have the picture somewhere.

Memorial to a Marriage

What beautiful piece! More pictures here.

You know what, you people are fantastic. I know that this is off topic, but I cannot count the times that this place has broadened my world. It is as if, collectively, we know or can discover almost everything (I do my part by being encouraging ). Carry on.

Two mindblowers… Cronin’s artistic talent and the capabilities of that milling machine. Extraordinary.

Not to mention all the money she has. Wow.

Argh, posted a half-finished post!

This is what grant programs are really for, people. Dignified stuff, like a tombstone depicting you in your lesbian lover’s embrace.
