That may be true, but it’s also true that I don’t give anything more than a superficial shit for what Jesus taught.
Pssst, What Exit? Check post #6.
Hey, what do you know. :smack:
Sorry, I missed it.
He didn’t but enough people did for me to admit it was bad form.
Anyway, it appears a meltdown, if not the self-pissing, may be nigh at hand, not just at the Great White Throne.
Liar (if you prefer, you’re incompetent) again, you didn’t misquote me, you lied/made a big mistake about what I wrote and were all happy about being able to demonstrate how “sneaky sneaky” I was being and how I had the “shoddy habit of removing the context in order to misrepresent the meaning of a passage,” and how my debate style was “dishonest…”
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=7836601&postcount=31
… yet the record does show I quoted the part of the verse that thought I should have, thereby indicating your characterizations of my debate style are false, and did you apologize? No.
I don’t think it’s fucked up, it’s just convenient and a little funny. While I don’t saddle myself to a stupid moral system which admonishes name calling, that in no way prevents me from pointing out that they are out of alignment with theirs when they do so.
That’s bullshit. If I want people to believe that atheists are more moral than Christians I’ll point out that they don’t worship a being that professes to murder/torture most of humanity. Who gives a shit about profanity?
Now that is a fine line indeed, which might be why you only got a warning. Personaly I find it hard to see the difference betweem them. Are you saying that if I write “I think this might be an indicater of your trollyness” in GDs then the mods shouldn’t call me on it because of the careful wording?
and holy crap…after miles of posts you still think I was arguiing in favor of personal property and riches. Either you missed my point or you are so determined to prove your own you just ignored it. {Once again I’ll assume you’re not a liar}
But you like pushing them and sending in the personal zinger that is oh so cleverly just within the rules. My son did the same kind of thing when he was 12. He reacted in much the same way you have when it didn’t work out.
Apparently your moral code also doesn’t admonish being a royal douchebag. Or do you have some kind of moral cheat-code?
I’d be surprised if there’s much of anybody who still interprets God or especially Christ that way. And since your criticism is necessarily based on the nature of the worship, I think that kinda negates your point.
I’m not personally familiar with your posting history, but I’m starting to get the distinct impression you’re far more interested in bullying than… well… anything, really.
This should read “And since your criticism is necessarily based on the nature of what they worship”
Clearly.
Hey, you’re bucking for “dishonest” and “hypocrite,” too. Go for it!
Bible man’s statements that I pointed out as dishonest have nothing to do with belief. They are specific claims with factual answers that he has distorted or lied about. If the question is how can these two irreconcilable dates in the Bible both be true?, the answer cannot be that the bible says that Jesus is both a lamb and a lion which is an evasive non-answer. If the assertion that all people are born with consciences is challenged with information that consciences are formed during childhood, the honest response is not to quote scriptural passages showing some activity of conscience in adults and then to try to change the topic by changing the meaning of the word “works.” Since the bible makes no statement regarding the origin of conscience, his insistence that the bible trumps Piaget is dishonest. There is no “belief” required regarding the development of the concept of Purgatory vs the development of the concept of indulgences. They are recorded in history with the origins of Purgatory being attested in the early third century while indulgences were elaborated in the thirteenth. History, not belief.
You pretend that I do not challenge Bible man’s beliefs because he and I believe in a Christian God, yet I have also never challenged Der Trihs, Kalhoun, Princhester, Revenant Threshold, or other posters on this board regarding their belief (or lack) in a divinity. Your claim that some shared belief causes me to give Bible man a pass is a dishonest red herring intended to draw attention away from the issue.
In fact, I simply do not debate beliefs and, in nine years hanging around various Straight Dope related boards, I never have.
I would note that I have never challenged you on a point of belief, but, of course, that would not have been possible since you coyly hide any beliefs you may hold on any topic, even when you are irrelevantly demanding of other posters that they identify their beliefs, (more troll-like behavior).
Badchad isn’t remotely a troll–he just holds a pov that you find objectionable, and instead of fighting fair and arguing on merits, you slap an inappropriate label on him (supported by your Christian fan-club but notably NOT by the rest of SDMB mods) and bully him, losing major debating points and all of my former respect for you.
I think it’s time for you to step down as a mod, Tom, and resume your former position of respectable and knowlegable poster, though you’l have to score some serious cred points to hold that status again in my own book. You’re a disgrace to the SD and to the other mods.
Step down. Do it now. Today.
Before noon.
Add my vote. Troll.
You need to read more carefully. I have already pointed out that despite his troll-like behavior, I have resisted efforts by both posters and other staff members to brand him a troll.
As to my “Christian fan-club,” you might want to wander over to the (extremely long) Pitting of badchad to note the quite large number of atheists, agnostics, and unbelievers of various stripes who condemned his actions and accused him of trolling. It is hardly a “Christian” phenomenon.
It would appear that you are letting your own emotions color your remarks.
I was posting at 2 AM and made my mistake which I admitted right away. That’s mistake.
A lie indicates the conscious attempt to deceive, or misrepresent the facts. It seems fairly obvious with your post right there to read again that I wouldn’t consciously try to misrepresent your post.
You could have said “are you blind?” or any number of responses but chose to call me a liar which is in fact, wrong, incorrect, inaccurate, etc.
I did point out in the next post that assuming someone is a liar rather than mistaken is unnecessary. Did you apologize or even admit a mistake? No.
Although I was mistaken concerning that particular posting my characterizations of your debate style still hold. Especially in the face of this
jewel where you claim to not interpret…much, and at the bottom claim if people disagree with you they are disagreeing with Jesus. Your elevation of your own interpretation to this point strikes me as pretty disingenuous.
So, since my feelings about your posting style didn’t change significantly after I acknowledged your mistake , and you decided not to apologize for your liar comment , I saw no reason to apologize to you and felt acknowledging my mistake was sufficient.
Now, if you sincerely believe everything you’ve posted and are not purposely sidestepping passages that obviously disagree with you perhaps calling your posting style dishonest is a incorrect. Is** Bibleman** dishonest when he spews his own interpretation as the Truth?
That’s a total crock. Badchad is all asshole all the time. And on the subject of religion you’ve turned into an asshole too.
I’m a stone atheist and I have zero respect for christianity ever since I figured out at age 10 that there was no such thing as God. However, I respect human beings. I respect people that happen to be jews, buddhists, hindus, mormons, or those that follow Mohammed. But, I’ve never ever seen Tom engage in the sort of favoritism you allege. It didn’t happen. You’re delusional. You hate christianity, Tom’s a christian, so you hate him.
It’s a load of crap. If you look up “fair-minded” in the dictionary you’ll see a picture of Tom. He doesn’t have a vendetta against atheists, and the gigantic majority of militant atheists who post in the religion threads never encounter so much as a whisper of a warning. Except those that are complete assholes and trolls.
Not profanity-just assholishness and immaturity. And bullshit-Christians aren’t more moral than atheists, nor are atheists necessarily more moral than Christians. Everyone’s different.
And quite frankly, if YOU consider yourself to be the better person, then we’re all in very deep shit.
Grow the fuck up and get over yourself.
What are you on about? Is this a woosh?

Atheist Fundamentalist
It’s childish and it’s not funny. It would be stupid for me to admonish someone for drinking if I were a drunkard. It would be stupid for me to admonish someone for being sexually active outside of marriage if I were a prostitute. Even though I see no moral problem with drinking or extramarital sexual behavior, it would be foolish of me to mock someone for engaging in either of them, regardless of their own moral code. Set a fucking example, don’t wallow in the mud.
Hell yes I do. Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Select, Start.
I would think there are many of us who haven’t bought into to “stupid moral systems” which admonish name-calling. I’ve unloaded before at SDMB. Words are symbols and not the thing itself.
That’s not why I personally haven’t chosen to throw profanity at you.
Have you lost weight or gained weight lately, badchad? (No, I don’t really expect you to answer me here.)
