So buzzer trouble meaning it wasn’t functioning right, or you couldn’t get a buzz in edgewise?
The latter. Also, you can’t buzz in until Alex finishes the question. You can’t see it on TV, but there’s a row of lights under the game board that goes on once Alex has read the question. Then you can puch in. If you punch the signal button too early, you get frozen out for about half a second.
I know that on at least a couple of questions, I punched in too early.
Labdad, I loved your baseball story. That is VERY cool. I agree with all the folks that said you handled yourself well and gave the champ a real run for his $$.
I’m proud to know ya, man!
Well played, Labdad. An exciting game!
That’s it? I thought the second- and third-place contestants got prizes.
I don’t have anything to add but I don’t want to just lurk. I really enjoyed rooting for a fellow Doper on Jeopardy. (I know there have been others but it’s the first time I’ve watched one). I was hoping you had bet all 19 grand on FJ. Oh well. Thanks for keeping us posted!
A tote bag and a picture are prizes, apparently.
Great job, Labdad. If I ever make it, I hope I do half as well as you, and manage to keep half as composed.
Back when I was on, 2nd and 3rd place got prizes, not cash – these days they just get cash. I lost but won a trip, plus a whole selection of crap – yes, a huge box of Rice-a-Roni, plus Paul Mitchell hair care products, an ionic air filter, a couple other things I can’t remember, and my favorite, Hooked On Phonics: Moby Dick the comic book. It was hilarious! But I didn’t get a tote bag or a photo with Alex.
Buzzer timing is so critical; you can try to practice it at home, but since you can’t see the ring-in lights at home it makes it hard. And I know I found all the adrenalin just exhausting, and by the end of the game was having much more trouble ringing in. I honestly don’t know how people make it through multiple games, especially since there’s only a brief turnaround, maybe 15-20 minutes, before they start taping the next show.
Well, damn! I got back from a long weekend away too late to see your show, Labdad. But I’ve added you to THE list. Congratulations.
