According to forecasters at the Space Weather Prediction Center, the geomagnetic storm continues on Tuesday afternoon, sporadically peaking at G4 intensity on the five-point scale. <– There are some amazing photos in this article.
Cooleo! Thanks for the heads-up.
I wonder if it would be possible to see if one were to look out over Lake Michigan?
Look North. I didn’t see much last night but I had city lights in my area. I should have walked out to the beach and into less interference.
Really loved those pictures.
you want dark skies. to look in a direction that doesn’t have artificial lights on the horizon is good. though unless the aurora is very strong it would be to the north of you.
From my location it was west of north. NNW? (I’m not sure of the proper nomenclature).
As I said, I didn’t venture out too far and the city lights kind of obscured the sky.
A nice dark spot would be ideal.
Any idea how long this event will continue?
There is another thread here from someone in the Southern Hemisphere
reporting spectacular sky at night, although that (I think) was from last night also.
Here it is (Win10 isn’t liking me at the moment):
