I, too, tried one and it was well covered with sauce. It was an enchilada sauce different than the other red sauces they use and I can’t be sure but the filling was not the same texture as their taco-meat.
No olives, of course.

The filling is taco meat, refried beans, and chopped onion. If you look up an item in their app it’ll give you a breakdown of the compojents.
The sauce is just listed as “red sauce”. I believe it’s the same sauce they put in the bean burrito.
Aw, now I’m even more bummed that mine had such a paltry amount of cheesy sauce after hearing all these reports of smothered enchiritos. Maybe I should have said something like “hey, this is my first enchirito in, like, 45 years or more. Please make it with care, and don’t skimp on the sauce”.
Maybe, but it had a definite “enchilada sauce” vibe about it when poured over instead of stuffed in.
Speaking of sauces way back in the day of 80-cent bean burritos they came with red or green sauce. I always preferred the green but it’s one of the items that vanished decades ago.
Actually, the green sauce has been back for a year or two now, but it is not the same green sauce that you remember, and is fairly disgusting. Once I heard it was back, I rushed over to get a bean burrito with green sauce, which was one of my favorite things to eat at taco bell for decades. Two bites in and I threw the rest away. I was so disappointed.
Yes.
Yes again, and when I tried it I was given the burrito and the sauce in a packet. I declined disassociating the burrito, emptying the packet on it, then trying to wrap the burrito again.
Interesting, when I ordered the burrito with green sauce, they put it on the burrito before serving. Perhaps it is location-specific as to whether they put it on or give you a sauce packet. Doesn’t matter much though since I won’t be ordering it again.
Del Taco still does their bean & cheese burritos with your choice of red or green sauce, if you’re fortunate enough to have them in your area.
AFAICT from the app, they’re the same sauce. I’m guessing the presentation, and the massive amount of it compared to how little goes into the bean burrito, is what makes the difference. It’s mild and sweet, a little bit of chile flavor, but definitely still tomato-based.
I was still a little bummed at the sad, pathetic enchirito I got from Taco Bell the other day (story and pic I shared a few posts upthread). So, I had all the ingredients to try making my own enchiritos again, except for canned red enchilada sauce. But I did have dried Pasilla and Guajilla chiles, so I made my own red sauce using this recipe.
Whoah! The homemade sauce was a game changer. Screw Taco Bell enchiritos ![]()
