Tony Blair is unbelievable!

I mean, just look at the gall of the man, penning this essay on his website.

W is more smart than he is.

That last is definitely controversial.

One thing you can say about Blair is that he’s dishonest and self-serving. He speaks of Saddam’s use of chemical weapons against his own people in the 80s, then jumps to 2003 to speculate about the likelihood that he would have done it again, almost as though the 1991 conflict and subsequent sanctions HADN’T taken that off the table.

In bringing up counterfactuals, he posits Saddam still in power in 2011, with the Mideast in rebellion across several states, just as though the power vacuum the “Coalition of the Willing” created was totally unrelated to the existence of those uprisings.

Frankly, I couldn’t force myself to read any more of his twaddle after that.

Absurdly lazy OP though. At least quote some parts of the essay and give us your reactions to them.

Blair supporter I suppose. I mean you could obviously not be bothered to read the essay yourself.

He simply posits that the current drama in Iraq is not the result of the “Coalition” decision to invade. That even if Saddam had given up how WMDs, Assad shows that he could have made them again, as “the West” only discovered the existence of the Syrian project when Assad used them… Which is nonsense since the existence was well known for two generations. That if the Arab Spring had occurred with Saddam in power, it would have been worse, errr no, the invasion probably quelched domestic dissent for a decade. Moreover, it’s quite cute the way he talk about Sunni-Shia dynamics, having not been aware of them in 2003.

He and his supporters can go to hell.

So basically he’s positing that the actions of his political enemies can have negative consequences, but not his own, for he is posessed of the anus from which flowers grow and the penis from which cologne issues?

One needn’t be a supporter of Blair to agree with Malacandra’s critique of your OP; merely a supporter of worthwhile OPs in the Pit. The criticism was well-deserved.

No, no I’m not. If Bliar had a tragic accident involving a lighted match and a five-gallon can of petrol, the only downside I’d be seeing would be the waste of petrol, although I’d be tempered in my reaction by the very real question of whether it was actually a waste.

I shouldn’t have to, you mouth-breathing waste of oxygen. If you want to Pit someone then spend at least five minutes stating up front what you’re pitting, not just link to something and say “This is teh stoopid, amirite?”. Chances are - for I still can’t be arsed to read the linked essay just on your say-so - that I will disagree with everything Bliar has to snivel for himself, but that’s not the point. The point is that you were too bone bloody idle to do your own pitting. 1/10, see me after class.

(Blair)Still trying to massage his conscience back to life, or hoping he’ll grow one in the first place, or something.

I hate self serving drivel like this. Even if we ignore Blair’s past lies or even give him the benefit of the doubt that he’s learned something from his past mistakes, there is still nothing of any substance in the article except for hand-wringing. It’s nothing but, “Look at this horrible mess. Something must be done! I’ve no idea what but somebody do something, posthaste!”

As was this:

That was a thing of beauty, Malacandra. sniff

Let that be a lesson to you, OP. If you get let off with a “That was absurdly lazy,” take it and be grateful.

A good intra-pitting pitting can be delightful.

You know I have always wondered how that charlatan Blair managed to get the support he did. Thanks for answering that question. I mean the guy worked on soundbytes, he was a master of that. Which is all you want and are capable of handling. And of course you could not be bothered to read that essay, the sheer number of words, and worse no cool phrases, no highlights, no flashy graphics and pictures and the big bad OP won’t spoonfeed the arguments to you and god forbid you actually use your brain cells for anything.

You probably wet yourself when he spoke about being “tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime”. And cried a river when he spoke of the “Peoples Princess”.

You couldn’t be bothered to explain what you were Pitting. If it matters so little to you that you can’t be bothered to go to the trouble of typing out your problems with Blair’s essay, why the fuck should I be bothered to do your work for you?

What he’s saying, counselor, is that you may have submitted evidence, but you failed to make an argument.

Now THAT’S a pitting! Also, that petrol insult was perhaps the best I’ve ever heard. Love it.

Well, you know, they say ignorance is curable but stupidity is permanent. I’ll just tell your carers to turn you towards the sunlight and water you twice a day, although to be fair the common houseplant could have probably managed a better OP than you did.

Bliar never got an ounce of support from me, in case it’s at all unclear.

I couldn’t be bothered to read the essay; I guess that makes me a Blair supporter. In fact, just assume I’m a supporter of everyone whose essays I won’t read.

It’s a good OP’s burden to start a discussion of some kind by setting forth an argument or opinion with examples instead of just offering a link.

He’s probably “more smart” than you, too.

Agreed with pitting fail. Malacandra wins the thread!

BTW, OP, don’t get the idea that you’re being singled out or picked on over this. There are a number of posters who display the same failing, and are usually called out on it quite quickly. And, sadly, it is not uncommon for such posters to respond to the criticism with a bellicosity that exceeds even what you’ve displayed here, with thread-derailing effects such as you are seeing here.

It is to be hoped that you will accept correction, see the error of your ways, and NOT become that type of poster. Otherwise, people might start opening your threads just to see how long it takes before frothy spittle begins (metaphorically) flying from your (virtual) lips.
