Too much Simethicone

(Note to mods, I’m merely satisfying my curiosity - I have no desire or intention of ‘over-medicating’)

What’s the danger of taking too much gas medicine?

My wife recently bought this product. I notice it says: Do not exceed 2 softgels in 24 hours
Now I realize that for liability reasons, most all OTC ‘medicines’ have safety warnings. And probably for good reason. Some OTCM can be dangerous, some not as much. I’m sure people routinely take above the recommended amount of aspirin, say, or Tums.

The gas pills above strike me, the completely uneducated pharmacy noob, as a med that would be benign. But maybe not.

So, what is the harm in taking more than the recommended amount?

Searching some web pages on side effects give’s hit or miss on drug interactions. One page lists poor absorption of thyroid medicine, another lists toxicity of overdose of another medicine, etc. (The latter is from NIH which is my go to site for such things.) I think it’s mere caution given the large number of drug interactions that could appear but haven’t been tested.

I started taking it about four years ago for what turned out to be unrelated bellyache. But in doing some research before starting it, I also noticed the conspicuous lack of side effects, even low probability ones. I still keep some in my desk drawer to take as needed, it’s very effective.
