Tool that allows people to upload and download files?

Hi, I support some designers that create large PDF, Word, AutoCAD and other files. They’d occasinally like to share those files with vendors outside of the organization or with clients.

I’m looking for some (preferably) open-source software that will allow the designers to create a client or vendor space, with an ID and Password, that they can upload files to.

The client or vendor could then sign-into that space and download the files, and in some cases upload files of their own.

For what it’s worth, I have an account with BlueHost and 1&1 in case any of those hosting companies have an online tool that will facilitate that.

Thanks in advance.

What you need is yousendit

Secure free accounts , also password protected accounts , many delivery options some free, some not
Basically you upload the large file to the yousendit website, and email goes to the recipient, and then they follow the link and download

If you wnat to give your clients access either set an account up for them, or tehy can use yor account
We use it a fair bit for getting large attachments around

Yahoo offers that capability, too, with their Briefcase. Also, Google Apps would work that way, too (don’t know of the limits).

If you just want to e-mail the files back and forth, use http://www.mailbigfile.com (up to one gig) or http://www.filemail.com (up to two gigs).

If they have Web space (and who doesn’t, these days?) they can just use FTP. Lots of free FTP clients out there. I used to use CoffeeCup FTP, but now I use FireFTP, a Firefox extension.
