Ok, just had a tooth pulled on one side. I was still a big groggy when the dentist was telling me what I can eat or drink and what I can, and how long, etc.
So I am guessing I can’t drink for tomorrows festivities…bummer… but how long do I have to not drink any alcohol? He mentioned no carbonated beverages, but I can’t remember if he said for 24 hours or until I am healed? He said not to eat anything like nuts, or chips or anything sharp.
But I can’t remember all the details, stupid nitrous. What should I not eat or drink, and how long should I not eat or drink them?
When I had my wisdom teeth pulled I couldn’t have hot liquids for a couple of days at least, might stimulate bleeding. Also scratchy foods, as you’ve said. Other than that I don’t remember any restrictions. Don’t remember any mention of alcohol at all.
Look over the paperwork you received. Many dentists will include a sheet about aftercare.
I am not a dentist. However, every care sheet that I’ve read says not to smoke or drink through a straw until the wound has healed. Apparently sucking loosens the clot or something. Warm salt water rinses are frequently recommended. By “warm” they mean “about body temperature, maybe a little higher” and by “salt water” they mean “half a teaspoonful of salt in 4-6 ounces of water”. I found Instant Breakfast and Vegetable Beef Soup to be adequate for a couple of days. Gelatins and puddings are nice, too.
You should give the dentist’s office a call in the morning, asking about aftercare. Explain that you were woozy and didn’t process the information. The dentist really WANTS you to heal up without any complications, really, unless he’s dating a girl named Audrey who works in a florist shop.
Just making sure you read this again. All the advice so far is good, as far as I remember from my pulled wisdom teeth, but you should get it from the horses mouth.
