Top 10 albums

For some reason, there aren’t too many music threads posted in here–tis all movie and television stuff (bah!). Since music tends to be one of the only things I care about, I am curious to see what all of you like.

So, let’s see your top ten favorite albums.

Only rule: No “Greatest Hits” or other compilations.

OOOOO! OOOOO!!! ME FIRST!!!

  1. The Clash-The Clash (UK version)

  3. Morrissey-Your Arsenal

  4. The Clash-London Calling

  5. Elliot Smith- Either/Or

  6. Big Star-Radio City

  7. Richard Hell and the Voidoids-Blank Generation

  8. Husker Du-New Day Rising

  9. Sleater-Kinney-All Hands on the Bad One

  10. Nick Drake-Bryter Layter

Mine’s all pop/rock stuff, but here ya goes (not necessarily in this order of preference):

  1. *Out of the Blue * - ELO
  2. *Plastic Letters * - Blondie
  3. *Time * - ELO
  4. *The Kick Inside * - Kate Bush
  5. *Love Stinks * - The J. Geils Band
  6. *Band on the Run * - Paul McCartney & Wings
  7. *52nd Street * - Billy Joel
  8. *ABBA * - ABBA
  9. *Abbey Road * - The Beatles
  10. *A New World Record * - ELO

A daring pick … most sources I have read prefer the US version of the album, which had a couple of ringers added. Or is it that you disqualified the US version on the basis of those changes?

Ohhhhh…Desert Island Discs…

(In no particular order)

  1. Live At Carnegie Hall - Renaissance

  2. *Born To Run * - Bruce Springsteen

  3. Beethoven Symphony #9 - Berlin Philharmonic/Von Kakajan 1972

  4. *Pet Sounds * - Beach Boys

  5. Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd

  6. Hearts of Stone - Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes

  7. Avalon - Roxy Music

  8. *Come On Come On * - Mary Chapin Carpenter

  9. *Time In * - Dave Brubeck Quartet

  10. Changes day to day, minute to minute.

  1. von Karajan, dammit! :smack:

I just think the original flowed better. For the US release, four great songs were taken off and replaced by one great song (White Man in Hammersmith Palais), three good songs and one, my opinion, kinda crappy song (Jail Guitar Doors). It makes for more of a “cut and paste” effect, I think.

In no particular order

Holy Modal Rounders - Have Moicy

Bela Fleck & Flecktones - 3 Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest

Eva Cassidy - Live At Blues Alley

Richard & Linda Thompson - Shoot Out The Lights

Wild Tchoupitoulas

Miles Davis - In A Silent Way

John Hartford - Nobody Knows What You Do

Van Morrison - Tupelo Honey

John Prine - (self titled)

Peter Rowan - (self titled)

Of course ten minutes from now I would probably pick ten different ones.

  1. The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs
  2. Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
