Top 100 Things Everyone Should Do, Have, Or Experience At Least Once in Their Life.

Sing along to Good Music
Whether its the soothing mellow tones of Bobby Darin, the sweet intoxicating voice of Norah Jones, or the care-free verses of Jimmy Buffet, It just feels good to bellow out the words along with your favorite singer. Vocally inclined, or horribly tone-deaf, it matters not, just sing your heart out.

Fight
I know. Nothing is settled by fighting and it’s barbaric.
But one sometimes has to defend one’s self. I do believe that marks one measure of a man; that he’s had to use his fists at one point.

  • or alternately -

Fight - for a cause
Pick a cause and embrace it. Become an advocate. Believe in something.

45. Feed the Ducks

Most people have a pond or lake with ducks around it. Taking a peice of bread or popcorn and throwing it out on the water to be greedily eaten up by the fishes and fowl can be so calming and serene. Just as long as it’s allowed, of course. Take an SO, take the kids, if you have them, or even just go alone and spend some time in quiet solitude. I haven’t fed any ducks in years, but just typing this out makes me want to do it again, and soon. I think maybe I will. You should too.

44. Tickle or Be Tickled.

Sorta like Kill or Be Killed…and that’s almost what it’s like. There’s something about tickling that’s pure torture, yet so fun to do. Some people HATE to be tickled and give serious injury to those who attempt, but it’s still all in fun, and revenge can be sweet. Most people I know are ticklish, but even those who aren’t so much can still tickle others. Even Shel Silverstein understood it when he wrote Ticklish Tom. So go on, reach out and touch someone…and tickle them.

43. Get a Visit From the Tooth Fairy

I remember whenever I lost a tooth I’d anxiously put it under my pillow so the Tooth Fairy would leave me some money for it. And it never was quarters or anything that was change-y. No, I always got a DOLLAR! I think that everyone should have the chance to be visited by the tooth fairy sometime in their life. Just to have the joy of something to wake up to and peek under the pillow.

42. Decorate a Christmas Tree

Yeah, I realize that this one may be a bit shallow minded. I just now noticed this. It took typing it up publically to do that…because a lot of people don’t celebrate Christmas or the typical Christmas holiday. I knew that already, but at the time, didn’t think it’d make much of a difference. But I’m still going to put it on the list on here because, well, I don’t want to have an empty spot. Although for those who do celebrate Christmas, I think it should be a nessacity. And make it a family thing, of course. It’s always a great thing to do.

41. Play Hide and Go Seek

More great memories. And it’s another one you don’t really have to outgrow. I know some adults who still play this, albeit with their kids and younger people they’re around. But as a kid, this was THE game (aside from Tag) to play. We’d spend all day playing it, until our mothers’ called us in for dinner. It’s nice to think about, even if you don’t play anymore.

40. Slow Dance

Of course, you always need to have another person to do this with, but it shouldn’t be too hard. Fast dancing is fun, but there’s just something about slow dancing that is just romantic and wonderful. Whether it’s at a dance, party, or in the comfort of your own home, to put on a slow moving song and dancing with someone’s arms wrapped around you is something that everyone deserves to experiece. Even if you don’t know how to dance. Even if you think you have two left feet. At least attempt it. Cause it’s an unforgetting moment usually.

39. Sing in the Shower

Showers were made for singing. Here you are, alone (usually) and you can imagine yourself on American Idol! Let loose with that voice. You are your own voice in the shower, you are the singing superstar. You just had your first great hit and are moving up the charts…and you know it. In the shower YOU are Elvis or The Beatles, and somehow, you just sound better then ever before when under that water.

38. Experience a Rainbow

Rainbows are truly amazing in their own right. When the sunlight hits water at just the right angles and makes a dazzling, bright rainbow from end to end in the sky. And of course, mentioning the elusive pot of gold at the end. Who doesn’t appreciate a rainbow? Who doesn’t think that they are pretty? It’s just something that everyone should see at one point.

37. Have a Boo Boo Kissed

*Remember when you were younger? You got a cut or scrape and mommy or daddy or someone offered to kiss it for you? And it always seemed to make it feel better too. Like the magical touch. Even today, a lot of people joke around about it. And it makes you think back when it really happened in your life. *

36. Get Dressed Up in a Dress or Suit

At least ONCE in your life, you should get all dressed up in your best (or even rented) wear. Whether it’s on your wedding, graduation, prom, or any other event that can be thought of, really, just to take a time to (males) put on a suit, tie, cumberbund, dress shoes or (females) put on a skirt, blouse, high heels and maybe a flower in your hair. Just once. I promise.

Wow - so far I haven’t missed one! Of course you know I have to add:

Pet a cat.

35. Vote

For anything. President. Prime Minister. Class president. For laws. Rules. Propositions. Even what to have for DINNER. But vote on something. Make your opinion count and heard. Speak up.

34. Watch a Cartoon

Any cartoon. Scooby Doo, The Rugrats, Adult Swim, Tom and Jerry, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Transformers. My stepfather, when growing up, NEVER was allowed or able to watch cartoons. So he can watch cartoons today (at age 52) hours at a time. It’s really amusing to see.

33. Own a Stuffed Animal

Some people I know own a million and one stuffed animals…and they still have room for more. Whether it’s your favorite teddy bear, or something you won at the fair, or a keep sake someone gave you, a stuffed animal is a great thing to have and hold. Great for hugs, and even company. I know people who actually NAME their stuffed animals…and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. Everyone should own at least one at some point in their life.

32. Ride a Bike

It’s like sex, you never forget how. Or rather, having sex is like riding a bike. Or…ahh whatever. Riding a bike is just the epitome of living. Okay, not really…I just wanted an excuse to use the word epitome, but still. If you don’t know how to ride a bike yet and you’re reading this, you need to learn how. You never know when it might come in handy. And it’s pretty convient too. I also think it runs deeper though. A friend of mine always wanted a bike when she was younger but never got one. She always told me that story with sadness in her eyes. So I got her a bike on her birthday. Pay no attention to the fact she was 44 that day…she LOVED it.

31. Donate

Your time, your money, your blood, your food, your clothes, your plasma, Anything.

30. Enjoy a Blanket, Shirt, or Towel Fresh Out of the Dryer

THIS almost defines heaven itself. I don’t even need any explaination, those who’ve done it know what I’m talking about, and those who haven’t, well, you’re missing out and need to.
**
29. Eat a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich**

The food of childhood…but adults eat them all the time too. I LOVE them to this day. Okay, so maybe you don’t like them…but how do you know you don’t like it? You have to had tried/eaten one before, see what I mean? Everyone should at least try one at one point. It’s such a classic food. It can be a snack or it can be a meal. So versatile this sandwich is. Oh, and having it cut in in triangles or other such shapes is fun too. With or without crusts.

28. Dance in the Rain

I love doing this. When it’s pouring just to run out and play and dance in the rain and get soaking wet. Hey, don’t need to take a shower that day, that’s for sure. I really think that rain was sent to earth for people to enjoy it. Jumping in puddles, opening their mouths to catch it, just having a good old time. Sure…you can run or cover up from it…that’s what we do all the time, mostly. But just ONCE before you shuffle off this earth, you should just go all out and dance in it like you love it.

27. Receive an Eskimo Kiss

To rub noses together in the simpliest kind of kiss is just so sweet and enchanting…and usually makes both people smile in the process.

26. Have a Photo Taken

Does a photo of you exist? I should hope so. I really can’t think of a person who’s never had their photo taken…but again, it’s one of those things you sort of take for granted. There probably is, somewhere in this world, people who have never had their photo taken. So no photo of them exists. No loved one of theirs can carry it around in their wallet. No newspaper can run an article about them complete with their face. If they go missing, why, they couldn’t even have their face on a milk carton. I think everyone should have one photo of them at the very least taken.

25. Eat Homemade Cookies

Not the cookie dough! Althought that’s good too. ;j But I’m talking about moist, soft cookies that come right out of the oven (and cool down just a tad). Whether they’re chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, or butter cookies, any form of homemade cookies is like a party in your mouth!

24. Swing

To spend your time swinging on a swing set is just absolute joy. Pumping those legs to see how high you can go, or even to just relax by sitting in one and slowly go back and forth is fun. I think swinging is underrated these days and probably always has been. I also don’t think this is just singled out for kids either. Swings are built for any kind of body to use them…and I certainly will.

23. Look Up at the Stars

So relaxing. So calm. Just to get a blanket or lounge chair and look up at the sky at night is wonderful. Peaceful even. Best if done with someone else so you can talk and chat idly. Just looking up into the dark abyss, and who knows what you might see? A planet? A plane? A shooting star? A UFO? The possiblities are almost endless. Just take the time sometime if you haven’t already and go outside when the world has settled down…maybe take a drink with you…and relax on the car hood, or lawn, or roof and look up at the Milky Way

22. Stay Up Late and Celebrate New Years.

Some never do…but I think that everyone should at least ONCE. It’s like a need. What sort of party pooper NEVER stays up for New Years Eve? I can understand if it’s not a usual thing…but I can’t fathom anyone who would live and never do it at all. There’s just this excitement in the air as an old year is finishing up and a new one is starting. And then, at the stroke of midnight…all the kisses and beer and resolutions and noisemakers and beer and yells and screams and songs and beer and Auld Lang Syne and joy and beer and beer and good, old fashioned fun.

21. Take a Bubble Bath

Yes, that’s right, get out that Mr Suds and sprinkle some in. Then immerse yourself in a warm, soothing bath with suds that come up to your chin. Just don’t fall asleep in it, heh, cause we know that’s not safe. But doing this as an end to a long day is just so gratifying. Give in just once. Go out, by some bubble bath and treat yourself.

I knew this would be a two day project.

Just think, there’s still 20 more things on my list that I have deemed, in my opinion, more important than anything you’ve read so far. I shall continue tomorrow sometime in the afternoon.
Until then, feel free to reply to this with comments, feedback, opinions, and even your own thoughts of what would on a list of things everyone should do or have or experience once in their lives.
Until then, have great nights (or days if that’s the case where you are).

There you go – finally one I haven’t done. Peanut butter is revolting, and almost made me want to turn around and go back to the UK the first time I encountered it. I love peanuts, but why on Earth would you want to mash them up with icing sugar?!?

A lot of fun, especially if you can do it out in the country. Watching a meteor shower, on the other hand, is transcendental. And on the personal side, high on the list of “things I have to do” is seeing Aurora Borealis.

glurge

Well, Idle Thoughts…so far, I’m 80 for 80. Does this mean that my life is already over if I have 100 out of 100?

I’ve never dione the macarena, watched an entire episode of Seasame Street, nor have I seen It’s a Wonderful Life. And I don’t plan on doing any of those things, either.

Heh…I’ve been worried about the same thing. I’m sorta hoping #1 is “Die”, just so I know I have something left to live for.

Very good list so far, I’d say.

Great list, but I have the same worry…if I’m done with all of these, what’s left for me?

::whimper::

Sleep outside–Nothing like sleeping under the stars.

Take a very long train ride–Like coast to coast

I don’t. I don’t enjoy it at all.

Old?

Spend a night in jail.

Yeah, I realize that this list may not pertain to everyone. Some may not have any wish to do any of the things, like bouv, and yet, they’ll still live happy, fullfilling lives. Just because you don’t wish to do something on this list, or don’t like it, doesn’t mean “you suck” or anything like that. This is just my own opinion.

Anyway, I’m back now…and for those of you who have thus far done everything listed, no, your life will not end at the end of the list and you WILL still have things to live for. :stuck_out_tongue: Just go do the things on the list 5 more times each.

19. Watch the Movie The Wizard of Oz.

*The thing that started this list and that gave me the idea for it. *

18. Blow Out Candles On a Birthday Cake

Everyone should have at least one birthday cake complete with candles at least one birthday. With people around singing happy birthday and presents awaiting to be opened…hell, even if it’s just a birthday cupcake or brownie, I think everyone should be able to experience having their own cake…and really eating it too.

17. Read a Dr Suess Book.

Yertle the Turtle. Stars upon thars. Bartholamew Cubbins. Marvin K Mooney. I like Green Eggs and Ham, and yes, I am Sam…Sam I am. In the magical world of Dr Suess, you’ll have a wocket in your pocket. And to think that I saw it on Mulberry Street. Nobody quite does words like good ol’ Dr Suess. He’ll teach you how to read with your eyes shut. And how to lick 40 tigers today. And nobody else could take you on beyond zebra quite like him. So go, run, pick up a Dr Suess book today and read it to yourself or to someone else…and Oh the places you’ll go!

16. Learn CPR/Basic First Aid

When I was a kid, they taught it in school. I certainly hope they still do. Knowing CPR coupled along with Pelvic thrusts could save someone’s life sometime out of the blue. I think it’s always handy to know just in case, because when a loved one or friend or even complete stranger needs your help to live, it’s always the best thing to know what to do.
