Yes, you are correct. And I don’t believe Morgan did it deliberately at all – the vase he broke was the one that was tilting over anyway and they looked very fragile to begin with.
While maybe all the chefs shouldn’t have been doing all desserts entirely in chocolate, it would be perfectly reasonable to use chocolate at a tea, even if just a little drizzle over a cookie, a ganache, a filling. I agree that it was a bad call to eliminate chocolate unless they ALL were using it or unless they told them ahead of time. I am guessing the producers assumed everyone would use chocolate and the surprise would affect them all. Poor planning and they should have left it alone.
It’s late enough, for the West Coast to see this. So, no spoiler boxes.
Well, we have our final three. Morgan looks like almost a sure thing. The lady that looks like Marilyn Manson is the typical, squeak by, middle of the pack chef. Yigit has shown signs of brilliance. He’s usually really good, or very, very bad at cooking.
Anything can happen. Yigit may wake up and do something fantastic. Morgan reminds me of Season 5 Stefan. Very experienced and has tremendous technique. A very solid workhorse of a chef. He’s won a bunch of the QF’s and EC. But, Morgan isn’t always that creative or daring with his food. There’s a chance Yigit could blow the judges away with something special.
I actually came to this thread about ten minutes into the airing and really had to restrain myself to NOT read who was eliminated before the show was over! ![]()
That said, I know she hasn’t produced as well as the others, but I am glad that Danielle has moved forward just to show up Morgan le Butthead.
I’m just happy when Morgan doesn’t win because his attitude is so negative that I am pleased when anyone but him succeeds.
Granted, Danielle should KNOW that no one wants to eat gray food. She could have made the cake PINK for the roses or YELLOW for the bathing suit and studded with silver draggees for Sylvia’s gray dress.
Sadly, I have to agree Zack deserved elimination.
Danielle is so totally goofy (gray frosting?!?!) but something in this episode made me start liking her more.
Yigit is very talented (and adorable) but he crumbles so badly under pressure that I doubt he will manage to pull off the win.
Morgan has shown he is likely the most talented of the bunch and I expect him to win this pretty easily. BUT, I don’t recall ever seeing a contestant who comes across as such an arrogant tool on any incarnation of this show. In fact, his comments at judges table tonight sounded pretty homophobic and very specifically aimed at Zack and his flamboyance. Maybe he is just getting a bad edit but I think the guy is a colossal dick.
Morgan does come off as a colossal dick and I think he must be or we wouldn’t see so many incidences of it. I think he’s homophobic, too, because he seems to have to mention over and over again on every show that he has a son, he misses his son, having a son was the greatest moment in his life, he has a son/ had a wife so he sleeps with women, he likes women, those women are hot, he’s going to hit on those women, he likes women… and on and on. Yet he’s a bigger drama queen than any of the actual queens.
I agree with this. He’s clearly quite skilled, and does seem to use some interesting flavor combinations. The acai (I didn’t know that was a real thing) chocolate he made looked gorgeous. His cake looked flawlwess, but boring. They show so much of him being a jerk to everyone, and then every once in a while he comes across as a decent human being.
Yigit has hurt himself a number of times by including too many flavors or techniques in one dessert. If he can show some restraint I think he has a good chance. I’m not going to make any actual predictions because I’m never right.
While I am not supportive of the grey frosting, Danielle could not have used dragees because they are illegal in California (and some other states). I don’t know what the penalty for dragee smuggling is.
I might have disliked Zac’s cake less if he had left of the jagged shards of white chocolate which were supposed to represent I don’t know what.
If Danielle had chosen a lighter gray, it might not’ve been so…naval…looking. And she still has the kind of face that makes me want to punch her.
Yigit breaks under pressure. I think with more seasoning he’ll get better, and he does have technique, he just doesn’t know how to edit himself. His cake was fortunately tasty, but it sure cut ugly. I honestly don’t remember what his cake looked like.
Morgan’s an ass, but he does have legit complaints. Zac and Danielle’s complaints that he just stands there deadpan when he wins is BS. You can’t tell someone else how to express their emotions. There are plenty of folks, including me, who value self-control and who would be humiliated to show excess emotion in a public setting. There’s a time and place for everything. Morgan’s comeback at Judge’s Table about not singing showtunes was obviously directed at Zac, but more at Zac’s flamboyance than his sexuality. Zac started the bashing when he commented on Morgan’s lack of emoting. That said, I did think his cake was too simple. Classic understatement is one thing, but (exceot for the piano, which didn’t look that hard) a novice decorator should’ve been able to do his cake.
Zac’s cake was hideous and inappropriate for a 50th wedding anniversary. His idea that he just needs to “be who he is” wouldn’t go far with someone who’d paid $250 or more for a cake for their occassion, only to have it look more appropriate for a fraternity tiki party. You have to bake for your client, not yourself.
I think if I’d been designing this cake (I’m no cake decorator!) I’d’ve made the bottom layer represent the “meet cute”. Maybe the piano keys with some yellow accent. Flavour on the bottom layer would be a rich chocolate with a ganache filling. Second layer would represent the wedding. Light, dove-grey (maybe) with flowers. A bright lemon cake. Third tier would be the present - somehow symbolize a life together, the family, etc. I’m not sure how I’d do it.
Anyway, I think based on the performance, Zac should’ve gone home. He hoped that his past strong showing would save him, but that was a disaster worthy of the Cakewrecks.

I agreed with Zac’s elimination, but I don’t really like any of the remaining finalists.
Daniell is bland, and has been failing a lot more than succeeding. She is somewhat less irritating as a person than the others left, but is a lot less interesting as a chef. She’s my least favorite to win the whole thing.
Morgan is an ass, and seems pathologically paranoid. It seems pretty clear that Daniell and the remaining Diva team members hate each other, but he thinks they are conspiring together against him? He doesn’t seem to always push himself as much as he should in a competition like this either, and clearly took the safe route in this challenge. His cake was too simple, yet he was proud for not using 75% of the time they had at the scene? He’s totally right about the whole not showing emotion thing though, and I thought the others were ridiculous for bringing it up. He’s also clearly an extremely talented chef, and the favourite to win.
Yigit is also very talented, and I could see him winning the whole thing. On the other hand he’s been failing a bit under pressure lately. I’m not a big fan of his personality, but he is quite interesting as a chef. I wish Eric was still in the game, though admittedly he wasn’t quite as good as Yigit or Morgan.
I’m trying, but god Danielle’s facial expressions are so annoying.
Oh, they are the whiniest.
I’m fine with that result.
Also, I guess we can officially rule it not just editing because the professional chef that worked with Morgan seemed to think he was a dick, too.
I think calling Zac a fairy pretty much confirmed that Morgan is, in fact, a homophobe.
Well, Yigit was the least offensive finalist. This was the first time I couldn’t stand any of the finalists. The lack of professionalism this season has been appalling. Hoarding kitchen supplies, sabotage this bunch did it all this season. I’m glad that the final had a bit of class.
I think they gave Yigit the win based on his future. He obviously was the most gifted and creative of this whole cast. But, he’s still very immature as a chef and very insecure. It may be another 5 years before Yigit becomes a big time chef.
Right now, it seemed like Morgan was the better chef. His nasty personality shouldn’t be a factor in the judging. I knew Morgan was toast when the judge kept talking about his “technical skills”. They never said he was creative. For Top Chef they want the most creative of the bunch. Technique can be learned. You’re born creative or not creative. Yigit has a natural talent and will get better technique with experience and time.
Like others, I’m just happy that Morgan didn’t win.
I was sort of hoping Danielle would win just because she was an underdog and at the end, would have been happy with anybody as long as it wasn’t Morgan. He really pissed off his professional sous chef and I have no doubt that his attitude trickled back to the judges.
They didn’t announce a recap show next week and I am both curious who might be Fan Favorite but I was also looking forward to the “what-the-heck-ever-happened to Psycho Seth” segment.
I am happy Yigit won, because I’m in the Bay Area for an undisclosed amount of time and I’m hoping some kind of opportunity will arise for me to try his food. Apparently he works for a caterer, so I can’t just pop by his bakery or something.
Yaaaaay!!! I am thrilled Morgan didn’t win and have more or less been rooting for Yigit all season so this result is about the best I could hope for. I would have loved seeing Eric make it to the final though.
I was rooting for Morgan up until these last two episodes. He really showed his true colors and it became impossible to excuse his behavior. I think if the whole “Go- Diva” team thing had never happened, much of the acrimony would have been avoided. It really set up a nasty, cliquey atmosphere that made it hard to support Yigit without reservation.
I usually am all about rooting for the underdog but Danielle drove me nuts.
The main difference between Morgan & Yigit is that Morgan is a dick but understands, to an extent, that he is, but Yigit is just as big a dick (though in different ways) but acts like the put-upon passive agressive victim. I’ll take the former over the latter any day.
I’m glad that all 3 ended up doing a good job, and Morgan’s souffle aside, there was no real catastrophe–just 3 chefs bringing their A-game and the one winning on the merits and not because someone else self-imploded.
I was hoping Morgan would win because I think he’s the most talented, and Yigit, Zach and Heather were total bitches towards him. But Yigit is really talented too, so I’m OK with that. I’m just glad Danielle did not win. I don’t remember her doing much of anything until these past couple weeks, and there is just something about her personality and the way she speaks that really irritates me.
I don’t think Morgan is homophobic. I don’t remember him making any kind of gay comments about Yigit or (I forget his name, the baker.) Zach acted like a prissy little girl the whole time and his attack on Morgan last week was completely uncalled for.
Eyebrows - I agree with you, about Morgan. He was uncomfortable with Zach’s over-the-top flamboyance, which is really no worse than being uncomfortable with someone who his a rabid sports fan who paints his face and yells “Roll Tide!!” with every conversation, or a guy who chews tobacco and talks huntin’ & fishin’ all the time. That being said, I think he’s a huge jerk, but none of the contestants except Eric seemed like people I’d want to be around. In fact, I thought the “win a cooking lesson with the winner” was something I wouldn’t even want as a gift.
Yigit’s whine in the morning about Morgan turning up the A/C while he has a cold was just lame. He could just as easily have turned it off or moved to another bed (they should have plenty of empties by now). I think Yigit is talented but needs more seasoning. He did seem to pull it off when it counted, though.
Danielle - ugh. I’d rather spend time with Morgan than Danielle. Her over-exaggerated facial expressions and attitude are just off-putting. And her ice-cream obsession is just strange.
