Top five looney tunes

The one from the Sheepdog is suppose to be a wolf. You know, Ralph, not Wile E. Coyote. In fact Ralph’s full name is Ralph Wolf.

Why they gave them the same body design is a little weird.

Was aware of that. The Stalling mention was (I was hoping) a semi-related adjunct. Understandable for the conflation, though.

Rabbit of Seville (1950)
One Froggy Evening (1955)
Hillbilly Hare (1950)
The Leghorn Blows at Midnight (1950)
Wet Hare (1962) (Hey, I am Canadian! LOL)

But Ralph Wolf has a red nose. So clearly no one can confuse him with Wile. E. Coyote.

not even an honorary mention for Daffy Duck the Wizard?

I can’t list only 5. Every time someone posts their five, I’m like, “yeah! That one!”

So to add to the pile, I recommend the two Ralph Phillips daydreamer cartoons, the Walter Mitty-esq From A to Z-Z-Z-Z and Boyhood Daze.

The Looney Tunes we grew up with were not “kid’s cartoons”.

I’ve seen them all so many times, the only ones I would go out of my way to rewatch are those with Bertie, Hubey, and Claude.

Robin Hood Daffy is another one which simply runs with the lead’s dysfunctional pretensions.

Maybe that’s what made them good even when I was a kid. It’s worlds better than Bubble Guppies and (gag) Mickey Mouse Club House. I’ll spare myself anymore fashbacks.

There’s a book on linguistics called “Pronoun Trouble”, which tells you how the author spent his Saturday mornings as a child.

The 'toon in question is “Rabbit Seasoning”, the middle entry of the hunting trilogy (preceded by “Rabbit Fire”, and followed by “Duck Rabbit Duck”.)

“Yeah yeah.”

Also, let us not forget The Hole Idea. Not really the best one of the many, but still a classic.

lol those are educational kids shows lol

I cannot argue with this. The square-dancing sequence (right after Bugs unplugs the “jukebox”) is probably the funniest few minutes in any cartoon ever.

Yeah, I’m aware. Trust me I’ve watched hours of that crap. The thing is there is a dearth of any thing else easily available. There are a few different shows, but most of those aren’t that good either. Teen Titans wasn’t awful, but I can’t think of any others that didn’t make me want to scream.

Loony Tunes were smart, funny, and yeah, violent. I have always questioned whether violent cartoons make violent kids.

When my kids were little there was, Duck Tales, Dark Wing Duck, Tail Spin, Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers. These were well, made funny, and often did teach a moral. Why the HELL did Disney make the gag worthy Mickey Mouse Club House? That show almost makes me violent.

Anyway, I loved Yosemite Sam and so did my dad. He (Sam) was such a nasty little shit. I’m gonna’ have to see if I can find out the titles of the individual toons so I know which ones y’all are discussing.

Bugs and Thugs
Bunny Hugged
What’s Opera, Doc?
Hillbilly Hare
Duck Rabbit Duck

All my favorites have already been mentioned

but I would like to point out quite a few mentioned are “Merrie Melodies” not “Looney Tunes” .

The distinction between the two became more and more thin as time went on, and most sources put them both under the broader LT umbrella.

Friz Freleng himself was on record as indicating, “I never knew if a film I was making would be Looney Tunes or Merrie Melodies, and what the hell difference would it make, anyway?”.

You know…despite their great renown, Chuck Jones and Mel Blanc are still underrated.
