Top five looney tunes

And, as already mentioned, Carl Stalling. A towering triumvirate of talent.

And then there’s Rocky and Mugsy in “Bugsy and Mugsy” (1957):
“I don’t know how you’s done it, but I know you’s done it!”

And let’s not forget “HIgh Diving Hare” (1949) and “Knighty Knight Bugs” (1958), the latter a re-enactment of the King Arthur legend featuring noble knights like Sir Osis of Liver and Sir Loin of Beef!

Fearless Freep!

And Sir Osis of Liver, and Sir Loin of Beef. Went way over my head when I was six. Just a funny name for those guys. But my parents got it, and laughed.

One of the great things about Looney Tunes was that they were written for adults (though certainly not in a Ralph Bakshi sense), and adults would understand them, but that they were harmless enough that kids could enjoy them too.

I’ve never been able to find this one, it is one of the “Elmer chases Bugs through a TV studio and hilarity ensues” toons, but as Bugs is running by a phone booth, there’s a call, one of those game shows that used to call people at random, and they had a question: “What is 527 times 325” and Bugs rattles off with no hesitation “one hundred seventy one thousand two hundred and seventy five”* and coins start pouring out of the coin return. Bugs looks at the camera and says, “If there’s one thing us rabbits can do, it’s multiply!” Went right over my head as a kid, but is funny now.

*numbers not correct from the cartoon, just an example

“Thrust, spin, dodge, perry, twirl!”

“Let me cut your mop
Let me shave your crop
Daintedly, daintedly”

I was always fond of Yosemite Sam.

It always amused me that, no matter what kind of animal he was riding (horse, camel, elephant, dragon), he would always spur it on shouting “Hyah, mule! Hyah, mule!”

Hah! You have a good point—well, a point anyway—@dorvann.

Obligatory Straight Dope link:

On a practical level it prepares us to deal with the many meaningless distinctions of life, e.g., Pepsi versus Coke, MasterCard versus Visa, and the Democrats versus the GOP.

Well, that is disconcerting.

People are Bunny
It was Daffy; not Elmer.

Thanks! I don’t think that’s on any of my Looney Toons DVDs.

I never knew the TV scenes were B&W. When Iw as a kid, everything was black and white.

Oh, man, I was over at my cousin’s friends’ house, they had Star Trek on, in color. Damn that thing made my eyes bleed.

I had the viewmaster of Star Trek before I got color TV, so I was really surprised to find the command uniforms were yellow/gold on TV, but nearly fluorescent green on Viewmaster. It was nearly the green of Kirk’s casual wrap around uniform. That material really didn’t photograph correctly!

Actually, it probably photographed just fine; my understanding is that those “yellow” uniform tops were actually a lime green material, which came out looking yellow when filmed for TV (due to the lights and the film stock). Thus, the pictures you saw on those Viewmaster reels were a truer representation of what those shirts actually looked like.

The story of the green woman is hilarious, but it would just be a thread derail.

Mods can delete if I am broaching the rules, but all of these cartoons should be on www .supercartoons. net, which I think is a legit licensed site.

Robin Hood Daffy: Yoicks!

Is the above mentioned short the funniest 5 minutes in the history of Funny? Whomst among us can say that it is not?! I am sorry to say that I cannot find the complete version online. That means you will have to find the whole thing somewhere else. You will not be disappointed, if you have a sense of humor. Sorry Republicans, but that rules all of you out!  I kid, I just like the joke so much. My beloved mom is a Republican!

Now then: Well, shucks. I can’t even post a part of this from YouTube. But you gotta look it up. Unless you don’t want to die from laughing.

Fearless freep,

Duck season/wabbit season

Are my all time favs!

Bugs: “Err ah, what’s all the hubbub, bub?”

Gremlin, swinging giant mallet at artillery shell: “These blockbuster bombs don’t go off unless you hit them ju-u-u-u-ust right.”

Bugs: “Umm, hey Mac, let me take a whack at it.” (swings mallet back, takes aim, takes a mighty swing at bomb… then brakes)
“WHAT AM I DOING?!!”

(from Falling Hare)

“Never send a monster to do the work of an evil scientist!”

I’ve seen publicity stills in which it’s clear that the Command shirts were green.

There’s a company that produces stuff like replica uniforms for Trekfans. They offer a choice between shirts of the original green and the gold that appeared on color TV screens.
