Top Five Movie Musicals Ever

I was never a musical fan (tho can wach Berkeley’s because of casts),but the first one I ever saw that I liked was ** Oliver **.Probably because of maturity and exposure to B’way at the time.

Costuming, choreography, and a beautiful voice on the barmaid.Matter of fact the whole cast seemed perfect to me.

Since then I’ve enjoyed ** Grease ** for the musical content and period.Thought Stockard Channing’s “Sandra Dee” was the highlight. They could have lost Frankie Avalon for my taste.

Absolutely loved the Mean Green Monster in ** Little Shop Of Horors ** and performance by Ellen Greene.

One hasn’t been mentioned, guessing musical is stretching the point, but I always looked at ** Bound For Glory ** as a musical version of Grapes Of Wrath.

I’ll probably fill out 5 with ** Fame **.Another maybe stretching the musical category

West Side Story
South Park
Beauty and the Beast
My Best Friends Wedding (yes, it is a muscial)
Moulin Rouge
Little Shop

(counting was never a great subject for me)

I would put Oklahoma on the list if it wasn’t for the dream ballet. I know, I know the dream ballet is the greatest thing ever and it’s ground breaking and all but to me it is also boring as the real state of Oklahoma.

Sampiro I take it you have never seen Love’s Labor’s Lost or Paint Your Wagon or they would have made your worst list.

I’ve never seen LOVE’S LABORS LOST (is that the one with Nathan Lane/Branagh?) but I have Paint Your Wagon. It gets a passing grade strictly because of Harve Presnell’s THEY CALL THE WIND MARIA(H). (He “went away” for about 25 years and then started appearing in movies and TV all over the place [most notably FARGO]- I wonder what that was about…)

I totally agreed with your comment on the OKLAHOMA ballet sequence, incidentally- it just ruins an otherwise watchable movie.

(Eve:speaking of OKLAHOMA, did you ever find your Charlotte Greenwood book?)

Nobody’s mentioned AN AMERICAN IN PARIS ???
