Topgear comes to the South. Will not return.

Thanks tea party nation.

Um, that was Series 9, so six years ago. And the show has filmed episodes in the US several times since, including a second trip to the South. But thanks for the outrage, I guess.

Thats what rightwing radio gets you. People who behave like that. They are worse now since Obama.

Looks at join date, moves on.

Why? Everyone has a join date. I just learned about this place on topix. I came to check it out and liked it. Some Im here. Whats your deal?

Because you read post #2 and didn’t say, “Oops my mistake didn’t realize it was that old” which makes me think that you are a troll. And since you joined and immediately opened a Pit thread which is never a good sign. But maybe you’re different.

I’m not the person who made the comment, I’m someone else, so I can’t say what their deal is.

As a gross generalization, people are often brought to this board by a Google search or find it through the Straight Dope columns and then sign up without knowing anything about the board. What they need to know is that the board is populated by a lovely group of caring loving funny and forgiving people, as well as a lot of people who care deeply about grammar, spelling, coherent writing and backing up an argument with facts. Sometimes these are the same people.

Frequently new posters who don’t know about the board culture will appear, make a few misspelled incoherent comments, get into scraps about their spelling, grammar and un-researched, unsupported beliefs, then flame out and disappear. Other times they’re just trolls. As a result, long-time posters tend to be dismissive of people who say something silly and are recently joined board members.

Let me be clear here: You did not post an incoherent screed. However, the Topgear in the south story is old, as is pointed out in the first reply, which might be the reason you’re catching some grief. I just wanted you to have some idea why some posters are a little leery of brand new members, since so few find a niche.

In other words, welcome to the Dope, I hope you enjoy it.
ETA: Ninja’d by Loach who can explain his own self.

Doesnt matter if it is old. It happened. Things are worse now than then with this kind of behavior. Im not a troll for posting something I had nothing to do with. My point is the GOP is full of people like this but when you call them out on it,you get lies. We are not like that. But then you see something like this.

I’m just expressing what I feel. I have seen this same behavior. I hate rightwing radio and feel it is dangerous. I have no venue for that expression except net forums. As I said I found about this one on topix. I am new here but not to forums in general. I didn’t see any threads with this topic and wanted to discuss it.

I love Top Gear but the hosts can be assclowns of the highest order. Generally I don’t mind and often it’s very funny. I have no love for the tea party or the radical right media and politics, etc. Having said that, these guys rolled into small town Alabama with full understanding of the local culture and with full intent to light up the locals. Nobody, least of all them, should be surprised by the reception.

Welcome to the SDMB.

Thanks. This was a very funny episode.

My attitude to that show has a a definite “what did *think *was going to happen?!”

Having seen that show once, I cannot watch that part of it again. They show it on reruns and I switch over once that part comes on.

Wow. I guess some people just do not get the concepts of “comedy” and “reality tv”.

You all believe in those ghost hunter shows, too, right? Because they couldn’t show it on TV unless it was an unedited, unscripted documentary.

In another thread about Top Gear (note that it’s two words, not one), someone suggested that the programme exaggerated the reaction of the rednecks through editing.

I love that part, so funny.
I wonder how much they got paid to throw rocks.

I didn’t get a thanks. Damn.

Could you summarize what happened?

The Top Gear “adventure” episodes like this are basically unscripted fiction (i.e. a reality show). They’re extensively pre-planned and very creatively edited to create an entertaining narrative, not an accurate one. They’re fun to watch, but it’s about as accurate a portrayal of the deep south as Survivor is of an island in the South Pacific.

I refuse to watch Survivor until they include cannibalism.

It matters if it’s accurate. You said they wouldn’t return, and from what others have said, they have.
