Torchwood--Does it get better?

I watched Children of Earth in its original broadcast, which was over five consecutive nights and aired simultaneously in the US and the UK. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and because of the simultaneous airing, was able to discuss it here with dopers in the UK. Also, seeing the story over five nights was fun. Miracle Day, on the other hand, wasn’t as compelling. As Drum God said, the idea was interesting, but the execution lacked and some plot points were left unexplained. Also the involvement of Starz mean that the production values were better, and I can watch Starz in HD, but have to watch BBC America (where the previous series aired) in standard definition.

That episode with the time travel to the '40s was the best episode of the 1st series. I found it hard work though and didn’t bother watching the other ones.

It works better if you assume that the real reason the “original” Jack Harkness died the next day is that his own squad shot him down for being a poofter.

You know, I didn’t think of it that way. I thought of it more like he was distracted thinking about the events of the night before. But you’re probably right!

…Wait I thought that WAS the point of the episode, that the guy’s bravery and tragic story was why Jack chose his identity(he had been working for Torchwood for what a century at least by that point he could have easily had any identity).

To follow up: We had a hiatus, then returned to the series. In our opinion, season 2 is loads better than season 1, due to having more human-like main characters and more interesting moral and metaphysical dilemmas. And then Children of Earth is extremely good, for much the same reason.

Season 4 isn’t on Netflix so we haven’t seen it yet.

No, it doesn’t.

I’ve been a fan from the first episode, but maybe It’s because I’ve never seen an episode of Dr, Who. The fate of Tosh, Owen and Ianto still bring out an emotional response in me to this day…

I would at least watch season 2 for when James Marsters shows up.
