Toronto Mayoral Race, 2014

A couple of pleomorphic liposarcomas (12 mm and 2 mm).

Poor bastard. I hope he makes it. Don’t die Ford. Just get well and go away.

So the hospital press update just ended. Ford has a rare type of liposarcoma, described as “aggressive” in terms of growth rate, but they plan on aggressive treatment with chemotherapy and will reassess the response after two cycles, which should take about three weeks. There is no evidence that it’s metastasized and the story about a lung biopsy was apparently false. The impression I got is that Ford will be released from hospital at some point in this initial chemotherapy process. Not clear how functional he’ll be and it sounds like dropping out of the election was the right thing to do.
ETA: concurrent postings, oh well!

Latest poll has Tory increasing his lead, Ford and Chow about equal: Tory is at 43 per cent of voter support, Chow 29 per cent and Doug Ford 28 per cent.

I like those results from Ipsos Reid (rooting for Tory) but from the same article, a Forum Research poll on Friday showed Tory with a lesser lead at 41%, Doug Ford 34%, and Chow trailing with 19%. FWIW, though Ipsos is the better known and well established polling firm, Forum has had a better track record lately.

But unless there is some really significant change like Tory making another one of his monumental blunders, he’s going to be the next mayor of Toronto.

Well, there you go. He isn’t well.

Cheers!

Aww, and my good wishes might have tipped the balance, too :frowning:

(Why is it hard to understand that I’m really indifferent to his health, which is a lot kinder than he has been to an awful lot of people?)

Tory does have the reputation of somehow being able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. But yeah, polls are unanimous that he’s the front-runner by goodly margin.

My two cents (for what it is worth): the Friday poll gave Doug a sympathy bump, because of his brother’s tragic illness. The later poll is after people started to consider the merits of having Doug as mayor. He’s Ford combativeness and stubornness without Rob’s aw-shucks man-of-the-people charm (not that I ever understood that charm - to me he always seemed like a sot and a boor - but I assume it must be there).

Subsequent news articles are saying cm, not mm, which sounds way more serious.

In lighter election news, I like the attempts by the candidates to use their namesake hamburgers as metaphors for their campaigns. I don’t believe I’ve previously noticed the “very hopeful flavour” of Jack cheese.

Right, the primary tumor was described as “about the size of a grapefruit” although it was added that from the perspective of its location it’s not as huge as it sounds.

Also, a correction to my previous statement that the two cycles of chemo would take about three weeks. That’s just one cycle. It will likely be closer to six weeks before they do imaging and see how it’s responding to the chemo.

My mistake.

Rob Ford out campaigning in Etobicoke Friday night

He’s knocking on doors in his old ward where he’s standing for election, just a couple of days after chemo.

Whatever issues he may have, he does have guts.

Interesting turn of phrase.

Doug Ford still trailing John Tory.

Different pollsters have different spreads, from about 6% to almost 20%, but none put Ford in front.

Ford appears to be pinning his hopes on a massive shift in the suburbs of Scarborough and Etobicoke in his favour.

Election is in ten days, on October 27.

Meanwhile, Rob Ford was asked to leave an advanced polling station for illegally campaigning there.

I already voted. The advanced poll is about 3 blocks from my house and I expect voting day to be extremely busy this year. Give that their are SIXTY FIVE candidates on the ballot, it takes a minute just to scan it and find the candidate (John Tory) that you want to vote for.

The advanced polls are doing huge number compared to four years ago. There are more locations (one in every ward plus City Hall for all wards), but I still think turnout is going to be high if not a record.

Completely unrelated, but I was at Five Guys Burgers in Leaside for lunch and a guy came wearing a Ford for Mayor t-shirt. I felt a bit dirty just being next to him in line…

He’s making a habit of getting kicked outof polling stations.

He is indeed a gift that keeps on giving.

Election Day in Toronto, and the latest poll shows John Tory leading by 12 points over Doug Ford, 44% to 32%. Chow is a distant third at 21%.

It would probably help if I posted the link:
