Again, they edited out one of the best lines.
Playing Fizz bin, Kirk says, “You got another Jack! You’ve got a half fizz bin already!”
“So I need another Jack!”
Edited out:
“Oh no, if you got another Jack, you’d be disqualified.”
Dang.
“Oh look, you got another Jack! (something about a Royal Fizz bin) Spock, what are the odds on getting a Royal Fizz bin?”
“I have never computed them, Captain.”
This episode takes place on the planet and doesn’t benefit much from being remastered, especially if they take out one of the funniest lines.
Eh, well, they edit them to fit in a one hour slot. There are more commercials during an hour program than there were 40 years ago, so something’s gotta give. I understand that when the episodes are released on high def DVD, the complete episodes will be on disc with nothing cut out.
Sure, but they’re changing the way we’ve seen them for what, thirty years?
It is nice to see some scenes we haven’t, but that one line saves very little time, and I enjoyed seeing how dumb the gangster was.
That’s my favorite ST episode. Right, Spocko?
Check.
I would advise yas ta keep dialing, Oxmyx.
BTW, possibly because of the “remastered digital” I noticed for the first time that the .45 Spock carries is at full cock with the hammer back, and his finger is inside the trigger guard.
Vulcans never bluff…?
“Why would he want to put a bag on the Captain?”
No, but they may shoot their feet off occasionally.
^ :dubious: ^
If it’s a Colt M1911 , then you can carry it “cocked and locked”, the hammer is back, a shell in the chamber, and the thumb safety engaged. It used to be the preferred method of carrying a 1911 for a lot of people, but since it looks scary it’s not as popular any more.
With your finger on the trigger? If so, I stand corrected.
I also noticed they cut out the part where Spock screws up the first time attempting to contact the Enterprise from a radio station, allowing McCoy to give him a little grief.
They cut the whole “Vulcans never bluff” standoff out of “The Doomsday Machine” also.
Yeah, it won’t fire until the thumb safety is slid down.
Go Here > “Care and Use” > “The Conditions” > “Condition 1”.
I was folding clothes in the other room, when Mrs. Magill (the true trekkie in the family), grabbed me to see Kirk’s Fuzzy Pimp hat.
It’s amazing what the remastering can clear up. If only our local channel would broadcast them in HD.
And, as Nimoy was a Sergeant in the US Army, it can be assumed (hoped?) he knew what he was doing and did it on purpose.
That was hilarious, I certainly never noticed it being that fuzzy in previous viewings.
I missed this one. To be honest aside from planet establishing shots what would they need to add to this. I mean I loved the Doomsday Machine and the extra SFX.
So being spotty on my viewing how doe these episodes fare so far? Which has benifited the most from the upgrades?
I’m recording them and haven’t seen many of them yet. The Enterprise and Botany Bay from Space Seed look fantastic now. I believe Botany Bay was a kit bashed Nautilus submarine. The Gorn in Arena blinks, although he is still a guy in a suit. Looks as well or better than the guy in a suit in the more recent Enterprise series.
This last line was in the version which aired here in the Cleveland-Akron media market on Channel 55. But they edited out the “Spocko” line and Scotty’s comment about “concrete galoshes.” Pity.
