Let’s say someone walks up to my house and breaks a window before helping himself to my stuff. Sure, if I’m on the spot and armed, I’ll do my best to fight him off; failing that, though, I’ll of course go to the authorities and say I’d like to press charges. (And should he be caught, I of course hope the judge and jury will follow my lead in refusing to listen if he says he’s immune to prosecution by dint of failing to consent or contract or whatever.)
Let’s say someone walks up to your house – and let’s say he makes off with some of your stuff if you’re not around, or maybe he breaks some of your bones if you’re there and he feels like it. What do you do? (And, at that: what do you do if the authorities apprehend that guy, only to have him politely inform them that he is Man The Creator, or some such?)
