Well, I just came back…I laughed (a lot), I cried (a little) and I didn’t see the bugs! And I really, really looked!
Oh, and I went right to the Disney store and bought a stuffed Woody, Bullseye, Buzz, and Hammy
LOVED IT!!!

I saw some sort of a show about Toy Story 2, where they point out that they used many already made scenes and things from other movies they have made in it, like bits of ANTZ. It saves time and money since everything is still in the computer and they don’t have to go and spend a year or something creating new stuff.
The animation is even better, that dog looked real.
The plot is better. Reminds me in parts of “The Velveteen Rabbit”.
I liked the references to Jurassic Park, Raiders and Star Wars, but I liked the “What happens to your luggage” bit the best.
And, oh yes, back to the OP. Well, if they didn’t have outtakes when they first put the movie out, they’ve added them. And yes, I would say that those were some of the bugs from “A bug’s life”
The dog in TS2 certainly looked realer than the dog in TS1.
Actually, I always thought that the fakeyness of the TS1 dog (Scud?) was a deliberate choice on the part of the film makers, since the humans looked…well, more real than Scud. Like they decided that if Scud looked really fake, kids wouldn’t be so scared of him.
Actually, the cartooniness of the humans in the first Toy Story was deliberate because they knew that the technology wasn’t quite at that realistic level yet. Therefore they followed on with Scud the dog being equally cartoonish.
Toy 2 had to have the humans looking pretty much the same as the first movie, but every character got a technology upgrade - more details in the textures, a slightly more dynamic range of facial expressions. Also, because the toys have very cartoonish expressions, it makes more sense to keep that consistent with the human characters too and accept it’s an animated film, not an attempt to recreate perfect reality.
Though I love the textures of the cars and roads and trees and stuff. The wide open spaces of the airport must have been a ton of fun to design!
The CG in Toy Story 2 is wonderful. With so many things on screen, with tons of details, you just have to wonder “Wow!! How many polygons?!” or “How many light sources in one shot? That looks wonderful!”. It also makes me wonder when videogame console(maybe Dreamcast 2? :)) or PC graphics will reach Toy Story 2 quality. Heh…probably when I’m 60 years old.
OK, so the dog in TS2 didn’t look like a real DOG (It looked a bit like the furry creature in Never Ending Story). Still a lot closer to looking like something that actually exists, rather than a cartoon.
Another comment - Mattel wouldn’t let Barbie be used in TS1. Realized their mistake, so Barbie is in TS2. Did I detect a little bit of revenge going on in how Barbie was depicted?
