Toy Story 2 Secret

Has anyone else caught the A Bug’s Life insects in Toy Story 2? GBS thinks I was seeing things.

At the toy store I saw a display of Bug’s Life toys… is that what you mean?

Naw.

When Buzz and the gang head out to search for Woody they cut through some grass right before Buzz says “That’s 2 blocks down, 22 to go!” (Or something like that).

The scene is a full shot of the grass, Buzz pulls the grass to the side and steps through. Right before he moves the grass, I swear I saw the Bug’s Life gang crawling up a blade of grass.

I don’t think it was a flash back…

It’s possible. (I haven’t seen it yet.) Disney loves to put in references and cameos for other Disney movies into their films. Especially since these were both Pixar films.

[gush] Wasn’t the movie great, though? I mean, you can usually expect poorer quality on sequels, and this one just made me laugh and smile as hard as the first one did. I love Pixar! [/gush]

They even love to refer to television.

Anyone else notice that the toolbox in that rotten kid’s room in the original Toy Story had the name “Binford” on it? Funny reference to Home Improvement.

OOOH OOOH!

In the first one, the for sale sign outside was “Virtual Realty”, cracks me up still!

The sequel was awesome! I have declared “it was the best movie I have seen since Armegeddon.”

And I * loved* Armegeddon!
Um Scotty…I tookmy kids to see it, what were you doing there?

And the dude who repairs Woody in Toy Story 2 is the dude who was playing chess against himself in the Pixar short which preceded A Bug’s Life.

Kells, I took my sweetie, GBS, to see it. She hadn’t seen the original. I’d been waiting to see the sequel for a while and it’s just so much better with a theater full of kids.

I’m sure it was the Bug’s Life creatures, though I didn’t see them myself. As you know, the movie was loaded with references to other movies, including Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

I also loved TS2, and want to snicker at any parents who had to sit through the Pokemon movie.

Did anybody notice Chip and Mrs. Potts from Beauty and the Beast made an appearance in Tarzan?

Gail: yup about Chip & Mrs Potts!

Also from TS2: I loved the Jurassic Park spoof with the rearview mirror!

I saw it. Opening night, latest showtime, as has been my policy for G rated movies since 1996. Great movie. Incredibly funny. Second animated Disney movie Wayne Knight’s been in this year!

My favorite part was the history of the Woody doll; one of the most annoying things about life is that most of my favorite radio and TV shows were from that era, and I wasn’t alive yet to experience them. It’s probably why I imagine that if I had any recollection whatsoever of Toy Story, I’d still like the sequel better.

such a good movie. well worth the price of the ticket.

You weren’t seeing things - you can find all sorts of little secrets to movies and things at eeggs.com. For Toy Story eggs, click here. For Toy Story 2 eggs (including one I myself submitted) click here. I knew they were going to throw something in from A Bug’s Life. I saw it coming a mile away. I would have been shocked if they hadn’t done it.

And the whole beginning “video game” scene, with Buzz running through the duct work, was reminiscent of the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

IMDB notes the reference to A Bug’s Life in their “movie connections” for the film, along with a list of a lot of the other references, plagiarisms, honoraria, etc. They were some of the funniest bits in a very funny movie. The highlight for me was the “Objects In The Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear” spoof from Jurassic Park.

Another good one was the sticker on Buzz’s backside in the baggage handling conveyor scene.

In the original Toy Story the names of the books on Andy’s shelves were the names of other Pixar works. There were books in this one, too, but I didn’t recognize any of them.

And, of course, Jurassic Park lifted that one from Gary Larson.

This movie rocked SO hard! I haven’t laughed out loud so much in I don’t know how long! Airplane! I think…

The animation was unbelievably cool, the textures, the facial expressions, the comic timing, oh… the references… WOW!

I almost cried during Jessie’s song! And the old TV show - I tell you, I forgot it was done with computers, those marionettes were so convincing!

Wow… a sequel that was actually better than the original (more action-packed, more jokes, no sense of rehashing the same story over, outstanding development of characters…)

I’m gonna see it over and over and over!
