TPUSA Halftime show featuring Kid Rock

Oops, I didn’t verify what I saw in a FB post - my bad and I take full responsibility.
The point stands that Bad Bunny is a US citizen, and there have been plenty of non US performers at the halftime show.

Brian

Yes, that is a good point.

Yeah, but Bad Bunny was born and raised in Puerto Rico so he’s not a real American. He was probably in the crowd that Trump bestowed with paper towels.

A rich kid that grew up 50 miles from Detroit.

Yes, he grew up in Romeo (born and raised, went to high school there). Detroit is just where his music career started.

His parents owned multiple car dealerships and he grew up on a big estate with apple orchards. He was not some kind of Detroit urban youth with a rough upbringing, rather the opposite.

Well, my 85-year-old mother cares little about football and less about modern music culture, and she’s going to be watching the halftime show (the real one), just to see what Bad Bunny gets up to. She’s rather fond of the good sort of troublemakers.

Go Mom!

Like every other SB in the past 20(?) years, I’ll watch tbe game, I’ll watch the commercials but use halftime will be used to clean up (those foods/plates that were already consumed), bathroom, or anything but watching that drivel

Interesting side note: His sister played Jesse Bowers, the Bluth family publicist, on Arrested Development.

I watched every episode of that show (including the Netflix episodes) and I totally recognize her. I had no idea that’s who she is. That’s hilarious!

If I remember, I’ll tune in to watch Bad Bunny. Most likely I’ll see it on youtube afterward. I don’t watch American football since I learned about the damage being done to player’s brains, and the team owner’s reluctance to do anything about it. But I do enjoy the commercials and the half-time show.

This is what I plan to do!. Not Superbowl oriented but I loved Kendrick Lamar last year so I will make sure to watch Bad Bunny.

Hello @Clipper and welcome to the Straight Dope! Yes these quote functions in Discourse can be kind of a pain.

Sorry about all my “quotes”.

I’ve found that - outside of the classics, like Prince - I’m usually outside of the half-time show’s demographic. I mean, check out this list of Superbowl performers on Wikipedia. Kendrick Lamar? Usher? Rhiana? The Weekend? I swear to Joey Ramone that I couldn’t identify any one of their songs on a bet. So I usually watch the halftime show for about a minute and half to see what all the spectacle is about before I start bitching about, “is this almost over, chee-rist!”

I anticipate the same for Bad Bunny, who’s songs go on the pile of work that I have no fucking clue about.

What I’m getting at is that the people who are offended enough by Bad Bunny are going to find out about this alternative Kid Rock Super Bowl halftime show through social media and word of mouth, and tune in to it just to spite (?) the people putting on the actual halftime show.

Otherwise they’d just watch the Puppy Bowl or something else. Or even watch the real halftime show and just seethe in frustration.

A lot of people won’t have the choice. The Sinclair Network intends to show the alternate Kid Rock show.

From AI —Sinclair Broadcast Group (Inc.) operates or provides services to approximately 178 to 185 television stations across 80+ U.S. markets as of late 2025. As one of the largest U.S. television broadcasters, its portfolio includes affiliations with major networks like ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and The CW, covering over 40% of U.S. households.

That’s a little misleading. As I understand it Sinclair will be showing the Kid Rock show on their digital networks. Their NBC affiliates will be showing the NBC feed including Bad Bunny.

Isn’t Kash Patel’s girlfriend a country singer? I would think he’d be pulling strings to get her on the stage.

She’s already booked at the greater Missoula district fair and pie eating contest.
