Tractor paint over existing paint....

So this old friend of my mom’s wants me to paint her car in cheetah spots. I told her I knew jack about painting cars. But she remembers me being “artistic” as a teen, so she’s convinced I can do this. She’s headed to Brasil to see her daughter for several months, & left the car in my care, along with several cans of tractor paint. I looked at one of the cans, & it recommended sanding old paint & then adding primer before adding the coat of regular paint.

Hmmm.

So, what kind of sandpaper do I need? And how important is primer, really? It looks like a lot of the paint (and all of the wax) has already been worn over time. I mean, there are still maybe three layers of paint, give or take, but it doesn’t look like a fresh paint job to me. She didn’t say that she’d sanded it, it just sort of… seems like it is…

Is it just an oxidized finish? Is it really sanded? Are there rusty spots? Are you painting the whole car with a base color (like light yellow) and adding spots, or are you adding spots to the base color? Does the ‘Tractor Paint’ say anything like “enamel” “lacquer”, or failing that, what does it say to clean up with? Mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, enamel reducer? Spray or brush?
