The worst promotion is one that no one hears about.
Plus, it doesn’t have to be a working iPod, and Apple charges $100 to replace the battery. So it’s essentially a free choice, if your battery is dead.
Also, it gets the Dell product and, maybe more important, their price out there, and someone might notice that they’re currently beating Apple by $100 on a 15 GB model.
Psh. I like Dell computers and all, but uh, psh. They would have to give me 2 15GB DDJ’s for my one iPod. If it were empty. And broken. And chipped into little bits. None of which apply. Plus, just as SPBM, Dell would need to pay me.
Figured that. They aren’t honestly expecting iPod users to trade in their babies; rather, they are hoping novices will see the campaign and think “Well I’ll be dayumed, that’s a mighty big set of balls them Dell folks are sportin’, their little doojigger must be pretty darn fancy.”
Well, Dell doesn’t even offer a 40Gb Player - So I’m out. I personally like the fact they’re taking a crack at offering legitimate competition to Apple (who for all too long protected their inflated margins under the shroud of, ‘sorry, it’s proprietary’)
IMHO, the 2x battery life issue is a big selling point. It’s unfortunate (and possibly telling) that Dell doesn’t get into the nuts-and-bolts and do a descriptive side by side comparison of their jukebox vs the iPod. If I was in the market, I’d want a couple things from my wishlist available: Font size control (like on a cell phone) and the ability to upload music files back on to a PC.
