Ok, some of you might remember that I asked about trademark infringements earlier…
Here in good ol’ Waco, CBS is claiming trademark infringement, because some group called ‘Focus’ (i think) is using their symbol (the eye)
The group is encouraging everyone to vote yes on school issues here in Waco. It’s on a yellow sign with black letters. I guess you could mistake the ‘eye’ for the CBS ‘eye’ except for the big WISD in the middle of it.
Anyways, I just wanted to point out that there is some infringement stuff here. Now, I guess I have to ask the religious stores if they have the permission to use what they use.
I guess it’s okay to let churches infringe, but not groups promoting educational issues. God forbid that we start getting educated.

No, it’s not a question of who the infringer is, but of whether there is a possibility of confusion. If the symbol looks sufficiently like the CBS eye, there is a possibility that people will think this political organization is affiliated somehow with CBS.

I think John’s right. If I saw a CBS eye with the letters WISD in it, I’d assume that WISD was a CBS affiliate station and that they were sponsoring the posters.
You can argue that any resident of the area should know the CBS affiliate in the area is KXYZ (or whatever), not WISD, but it’s becoming less and less common for TV and radio stations to promote themselves with their full call sign. It’s usually “KQ-2” or “KY-102” or something like that; in practical terms, it’s much more important for consumers to remember the frequency/channel than for them to remember the exact call sign.
