I used to buy Trader Joe’s tongol tuna, but they seem to have stopped carrying it. I was told once, that they’re waiting for the price to come down. In the meantime, I get their yellowfin tuna in oil. I like tuna in oil. It has a more robust flavour than tuna packed in water. (The SO didn’t even know you could still get tuna packed in oil, it’s been so long since she’d had any before she moved in.) I also like ‘chunk light’ tuna instead of ‘white’ tuna. Again, more sensory stimulation.
Here’s the thing: My tuna salad comes out too salty. I’m not entirely sure if it’s the tuna, or if it’s the (Best Foods) mayonnaise, or if it’s the oil. Next time I buy tuna I’ll get Bumblebee or Star Kist (packed in oil). But has anyone else found TJ’s yellowfin-in-oil to be too salty?
