There’s a special sex section in the local paper today. Among other things, it claims that 33% of women would trade their intelligence for bigger breasts.
The rest of the section was pretty good, but that statistic made me go, “Huh? Really?” I’m not sure where they got their sample from. I somehow doubt that about a third of all women would barter brains for bigger boobs, and I could argue that those who would, don’t have much intelligence to trade in the first place.
I was almost considering asking if anyone here on the SDMB would do such a thing, but come on, we’re all smarter than that, aren’t we, ladies?
Well, just by being a member here you give evidence of being smarter than most. As such, I deduce that you generally socialize with other wise women - and you use your intelligence.
I’ve met many women that have no idea or inclination how to use theirs, so it’s easy to imagine them willing to trade some in…
How reliable is the source of the statistic??
BTW; I’ve seen a pic of a nice looking young lady in a tank-top that says “I wish these were brains”.
I’m not a woman, but I think it depends how the question is worded. Would they rather have a “high IQ” for example. I mean how does trading your intelligence even work - you get an IQ of 100? Well if so - half the women would be better off anyway.
I think many women have the idea that having a better body would be more helpful than being a little smarter. I don’t think they are far off the mark. I’m not saying this to be sexist - it goes for men too - just to a lesser extent. Life is easier for attractive people.
Stat does surprise me as phrased, but this was apparently some link bait survey for a coupon site - I wouldn’t place a whole lot of trust in the way it was done.
Even fairly dim women know that you can’t buy more intelligence, but you can buy bigger boobs. So you can keep whatever intelligence you have, and get the bigger boobs for cash – no need for the trade-off.
I believe it. When I was in school I watched as more and more girls dropped out of the more advanced math and science classes. Then they sort of tried to be dumb. Girls that tested into the more advanced math classes in eighth grade were getting a C average in all their classes by the time they graduated from high school. I watched them get dumber and dumber over time. It was really remarkable.
They didn’t trade their brains for breasts because the breasts were going to develop anyway, but they chose to give up their learning power to be more attractive to teen boys (who, sadly, tend to prefer girls to not be smarter than the boys are.)
