For those TS fans, I usually start the TS appreciation or slamming thread right at 10p EST. I had to run an errand last night and I missed the episode. It’s on tape, and as soon as a get a chance to watch it, I will.
In the meantime, please feel free to share your views about the episode. I will be checking in later after my chores are done and I’ve watched it.
I hated Kia’s room. The seashell headboard and footboard didn’t fit the bed, and none of it fitted with the HO’s furniture that stayed in the room. And I thought the mirror idea for the doors was dumb. I felt bad for Ty when they broke, but figured it was more of a design flaw than anything.
Hildy’s room was pretty, but useless. I thought her triptych of paintings worked really well. The whole room was calm and gallery-like, but who wants a gallery room in their house??? And the sofa looked very uncomfortable to me.
When Kia talked about the bed “rising from the sea,” my daughter and I had the identical thought: she was going to install a swimming pool and throw in an air mattress. Given her history with beds, it wasn’t out of line. And it might have been better than what she came up with.
This was an oddity: a Hild* episode that didn’t have me foaming at the mouth. Like Archergal and ladydisco, I think it was nice but useless (actually, the word “sterile” popped into my mind).
One last comment: it seemed that someone at Banyan gave Hild* and Ty a very long talking-to. Or maybe Valium. . . .
Once again, set designer Kia created a room that would be fine in a movie in the home of an eccentric character, but was just stupid for the real world.
And Hilde’s room was a surprisingly unweird one, but form didn’t follow function. That sofa looked as inviting as a bed of nails. I guess it could be the room where the family entertains people that they don’t particularly like.
I must be the odd one out. I liked Kia’s room. I do agree that in Kia’s room the exisiting furniture didn’t go with the bed, but I really really really appreciate that Kia didn’t paint it. A few weeks ago Doug painted a HOs furniture that was exactly like mine and I though I’d kill if mine got painted because it’s really nice. And Kia admitted at the pre-reveal interview that she is the border queen. I’m starting to like Kia–she certainly doesn’t come across as the prima donna “I’m the designer.” And I find her voice very soothing. As far as Hildi’s room, it was beautiful but a stage setting. Not at all practical. And the HOs asked “where’s the rest of the furniture??” Probably they moved it all back the next day! And how about the bleep out of Ty’s comment when the mirror TV cabinet dropped? Wished they showed more of that in the outtakes.
When Kia announced that she was the border queen I was thinking, “Kia, sweetheart, that’s not really a good thing.” Her room wasn’t as bad as some of her others (I’m thinking especially of the peach room with the taxidermied ducks and non-functional game table for “mother”). That being said, could you ever see Vern leaving a weird frame-thing with “we’re so sorry” written on it in marker?
Hildi’s room was cool, but completely unpractical. At least they have a nice floor now.
I figure the HOs who got Hildi’s room will add some furniture and get a nice enough room out of the deal. If all else fails, the floor is gorgeous and that alone is worth it. And Hildi mentioned that there are back cushions for that couch, she just didn’t put them in the room. If she’s left them behind (possible, because, really, what is she going to do with 3 spare couch cushions?), then adding them back in will go a long way to making the room more liveable.
I don’t know what the people who got Kia’s room will do. Take out everything that didn’t already get broken? What a freaking disaster. Did she look at the furniture or the carpet in that room before she started? The room looks like its been decorated for an ‘Under the Sea’ themed prom or something. Kia as a person seems very nice, too bad she’s such a crappy designer.
I liked Hilde’s room - but it’s useless. I really liked the painting series. What are they going to do with all the stuff that was in it?
I realied, Kia reminds me of my aunt. Same mannerisms, same disconnect from reality. I wouldn’t let either one of them decorate in my apartment (or future house)…but as horrified as I am, I’ve yet to see a homeowner dislike her rooms. maybe they choose people who go for whatever her style is called. (What would you call that?)
I thought Kia’s room was a nice start, but it didn’t go with the carpet and the furniture. Hopefully the HO’s will go the rest of the way and finish the rest of the room to match what she started.
The TV cabinet sounded lovely, but I don’t think I would have painted it. Did it fall off the dresser or did it fall over from the floor? And what was the guy’s attachment to having a toolbox as a TV cabinet? No, thank you.
As for Hilde’s room, rather pretty but not practical at all. The family has children, and having one room as nonfunctional as that is very wasteful. I think rocking chair nailed it…it’s a waiting room. I did love the floor though…very nice.
They’re in Florida! I was at work when someone said they were filming an episode near Orlando…I wonder when that’s on?
And it would be more stupid than having a red metal tool chest for a TV stand?
Good Lord, what a mixed-up mess Kia’s room was.
The repeat on the border was way too obvious, the border itself was just fugly, the shell bed was weird, the TV-box was odd, the bamboo on the walls was stupid, the window screen things were cheesy-looking… I could go on and on.
It looked like a theme room at a cheap Vegas motel.
Did you notice when Kia mentioned the Aegan Sea color, the HO questioned her like she had never heard of the Aegan Sea?
After the TV-box was broken, Paige made some comment about screwing it into the dresser. I think (?) maybe they were planning on screwing it down. I’m not sure if I heard that right.
That was funny that it fell over. I wonder if Ty had the doors open or if it just fell over on its own.
Oh, and Kia? Those things on a ladder are called “rungs,” not treads or risers. Risers are on stairs, ya moron.
I liked Hildi’s room. It seemed rather stark, and needed some more seating, but I liked the painting she did. I liked the blue walls, which the HO clearly did not. I like blue. I’m always surprised at how many HOs hate blue.
The 8:00 episode:
Another Kia one. She took a huge leather sectional sofa out of a family room and replaced it with a long upright bench seating thing. I'm not a fan of the black leather couches, but at least they looked comfy. To replace them with those upright bench things...ugh. It looks so uncomfortable. And she put the computer and TV at right angles to each other, so it looked like if someone was using the computer, they'd be blocking the TV.
Frank's room looked okay, but I hated the PVC pipe "artwork" on the wall.
jacquilynne, you do live dangerously don’t you? the mind shudders at what hildi could do with the back cushions of a couch. i expect to see them glued and stapled to a ceiling at some point.
ask not whither the cushions, they may come for thee.
Regarding Kia, what the hell is the point of having a “designer” who has more deplorable taste than any of the homeowners she works with? Purple and green worked on Lex Luthor, but they don’t work pretty much anywhere else.
That sea room was hideous; anything that uses seafoam green is pretty much guaranteed to be fubar. And her accessorizing was just appalling; impractical, ugly, and just plain weird-looking.
I don’t want every designer to be Vern, but even Frank does an occasional great-looking room to make up for his tendency towards country-nightmare-chic. I don’t know why they think they need Kia on the show, but if she showed up at my house for a shoot, I’d do everything in my power to burn the place down before the weekend was out.
The shell bed was definitely “Under The Sea,” but then she had bamboo on the walls, and the jungle/toucan border and the woodsey-twig TV-box, so just what theme was she going for?
What about the whole thing with the flower arrangement? $5 miniature chair + $55 worth of flowers = $60 worth of ugly crap, out of proportion, sitting on the floor.
Kia took an ugly mishmash of a room and turned it into an entirely different ugly mishmash of a room. That takes effort.
I would never do it or want to see it done but I actually liked the seashell Head/footboards. I thought Ty (or whoever) did a really good job on those.
Kia has that Walmart style thing working for her. Let’s find the ugliest wallpaper border (by definition almost all of them), discounted purple paint, and decore appropriate to a pay by the hour theme room. Dez destroyed a couple rooms and got fired, Kia did the same thing and gets in the credits.
However, I do agree that Kia actually seems to listen and care about the input of her HO’s. Her personality is nice as well, but the issue is that she is a horrible designer.
Hildy’s room was neat and was dead on what it was designed for. That being said, I don’t know how useful the room would be, but that table was amazing.
For next Sunday- the Andy Dick (I guess we know what happened to his career. . .) episode is the new one right? Does that mean no TS on Saturday?
